Great video. A lot of Dawless Jammers share their jams but don’t actually talk about their process. It is cool to learn your workflow. Thanks for sharing.

Cool! I always felt a bit odd when i was rehearsing a dawless jam or keeping notes of which transitions works and which tracks to mute, because for me it felt that "jamming" is the musical equivalent to improvising.

Thanks Giel! I know. There is a big gap between 'live' and 'play and forget'. I used to feel guilty for not 'playing' notes live that much (I'm simply not good enough at that) but I started caring less. I don't do 'play and forget' (song mode) jams, but there still goes a lot of preparation into these jams. And I manage to mess it up every time 🤣🤣🤣 But that is part of the fun for me. Rehearsing, getting better and better and enjoying the process as much as I can!

Are you controlling volume with the faders? I assume no given the input availability. Curious how you manage volume for multiple external devices and how you map your faders. Excellent video. Love the content and your style!!

Thanks man. Since I stopped using the inputs of the 707, I lost the ability to control the volume with the faders for the external synths. I do use the faders for internal tracks (drums + synths) but that is a downside of scaling up I guess. Right now I set the volume in the external synth, but that is not for performing. I use pattern mutes when I want to quickly disable an external synth

I do very similar but I put a TD-3 and elektron drive pedal into my MC707, much recommend using it's ext inputs. And then i put MC707 and TR8s into my Octatrack.

I am a big fan of the bit crusher efx on 707 master. I am trying to make myself stay with a master template on 707 as well. maybe leave 1 or 2 channel to change with each "song"
@tricks-and-tips
@tricks-and-tips Жыл бұрын
@@isaac.anthony yeah, I used to route my synths through the 707, which is very nice with the faders. But when I bought too many synths, I did not have enough inputs anymore and started using my XR18 instead. But there are so many ways, it’s really great to have all these opportunities. And I love that one too, plus the Lofi compressor 😎

@@tricks-and-tips You are welcome, I mean MIDI. My guess is that the audio is summed or transferred by the XR18 into your DAW of choice.

@@SolidtraxNL I think I explain a bit of that here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2KlaWmVqKd5mpo With one difference, that I usually use the YC61 for playing melodic stuff. Here I use the pads because I did not want to move the camera around all the time

Hey! Is there a way to edit beat/ note placement on the 707? Like if you wanted to nudge it forward on the grid?
@tricks-and-tips
@tricks-and-tips Жыл бұрын
You can finetune the startpoint of a note. Copy/paste a note or move all the steps around in one clip. So it’s not like the MPC with its big screen, but it gets the job done very well.

Are you recording synth audio into looper clips or MIDI notes on a tone track that are in-turn playing the synths? If it's the first, I feel like I only get a couple clips in before I hit the time limit. If it's MIDI, how are you changing synth sounds around between parts? Or, are you just settling on one static synth patch across all the clips on that track?
@tricks-and-tips
@tricks-and-tips Жыл бұрын
Just midi. I use either program changes (so the 707 sends the patch number out to the synth when it needs to change) or change sounds by hand. (This is what I do most) I like to do these things live.

@@tricks-and-tips I recently "reported" a bug with bank changes to Roland and they just fixed it in 1.82 - I was wondering what others do, apparently you don't have to use bank change as part of your program change with 1.81? In your setup that is? Just one program change number is enough?

I from France. I hesitate with the MPC One ... why did you choose the 707 ?.
@tricks-and-tips
@tricks-and-tips 10 ай бұрын
Hi man, I tried the MPC Live 2 and the 707 myself and also considered the Force, Deluge and Maschine+ The MPC is much more a complete DAW where you can produce full tracks and less 'performance' oriented. I wanted a performance groovebox where I can jam and have fun. I'm not making full tracks with my 707. Both are great boxes, but for me, the 707 with the dedicated buttons, faders etc. works better and I don't need a full DAW experience (I have a DAW if I want everything to produce a track). There is also the Force, which is more performance oriented and I'm considering to try that one once, but so far I like the 707 a lot and I don't want to spend a lot of time learning another groovebox. For me the 707 is just right. Not too much options. Not the 'best' in anything, but it can be my drum machine, sample player, sequencer, synth and soundcard in one device. And that is what I needed. If you have more questions, let me know!
