We used all my enormous nursing school theory textbooks to press a large number of native wildflowers gathered in our pasture and around the county, to make a wildflower book for my daughter's 11th grade biology assignment. She collected, dried and mounted the dried flowers on white linen paper, labeled them with their scientific name and then being the art student that she is, used colored pencils to sketch an illustrated picture of each flower before inserting the pages into a clear document sleeve and putting them in a binder. She got an A.

Love the microwave option for drying flowers. I attempted to dry flowers from my mom's funeral with the conventional dryer you have there and they didn't turn out at all. I was heart broken. But, this microwave process looks great. I'd think, if the thicker ones were flat, but not completely dry, you could then put them in the silica sand to finish getting the moisture out. Anyway, loved seeing the comparisons🌸🌼🌺🏵

I actually did so many dried flower projects last fall from your video with the silica sand and made a few shadow boxes. However, over the course of a year, the flowers I used lost a lot of their color or went discolored. I used mostly pink roses, pansies, violas, and sunflowers. Is this something that happens?/happened to your shadow boxes? How can one prevent that or preserve color longer? You mentioned that your box of flowers has been collected over years, and they still look so vibrant! Thanks in advance! :)
