Using the Retrotink 5x in 240p Mode (Playing Xbox360 on a PVM) - Dad & Lads Gaming

I just got a Retrotink 5x which is a fantastic piece of kit.
Before I updated to the newer firmware I thought I'd have a play around with the 240p downscaling capabilities.
Its a shame this feature has been removed from newer firmware but it is easy to install older firmware if anyone else wanted to try this.

I hadn’t even thought about using a device in this way ie as a downscaler. Looks really decent particularly with the shooters. Need to get saving; I use the 2x when playing the Saturn but am in need of an upgrade. Nice one 👍🕹

I think it’s one that you definitely have to be there as I bet they look amazing in person, especially the game that natively ran at 240p. It’s a shame that it’s not a feature that Mike Chi hasn’t decided to keep around. That being said as much as I think it’s a cool feature, how much would I actually use it? I do think downscaling the more modern consoles is neat & playing games like SFV on a PVM would look cool. Good stuff mate.

This kind of thing won't appeal to most people but I enjoy messing about with these things. I still can't manage to record the PVM screen as good as I'd like. The games do look great in person though.

@@DadLadsGaming I think filming direct off a CRT and getting the colours right and reducing the flicker must be a bit of a headache. There are plenty of tutorials as to how to do it, but still a pain I bet. A couple in there I’ve not got. It’s disappointing that Trouble Witches is no longer on Xbox live. I reckon Final Fight would have been a good shout to record.

Some of those looked outstanding. Daytona and Outrun in particular. I saw a feature called LGUN border. What does that do? Is it for future integration of the Sinden?

Now the real question is how do 360 games look when they’ve been downscaled 😜 did you buy Scott pilgrim when it was first released or is there another way to get it on the 360 now?

Interesting that you can do this, but why would you want to do this as wouldn’t the Xbox 360 be better played at a higher resolution on the pvm? I don’t owe one and so maybe I’m missing something here? 🤔

PVM will do 480i. Obviously a progressive picture is better. It's a bit of fun downscaling games that are traditionally 240p onto a CRT.

what cabble do you use to connect retrotink 5x into pvm?

I use a hdmi cable into a hdmi to component converter. Then a component cable into the PVM. Hope this helps👍

@@DadLadsGaming can you share what cable ex : ebay item. i using hdmi to component box. but scaled by the system at minumum 480p so my pvm can handle it. 😅 thank a lot.

I actually used an official 360 component cable.....into the Tink then hdmi output into the converter.
