Thanks for the explanation of the Windy App! I'm more of an Surfing Old Dude than a Sailing Old Dude; so still super userful.

Great norm. Do you know how to reverse a planed trip?

No haven't tried that. Think you may have to replace it.

G'day Norm. I haven't commented on your channel for ages, 'cause I often watch you on my smart TV. Question: Can you please explain the difference between wave, swell, swell 2? I'm buggered if I know and I even asked a professional fisho whilst in a charter and he had no idea. So I thought I'd go to the guru..... Cheers, Deano

Swells are made by distant winds, waves are made by local winds. For example, imagine you are near Sydney. A big southerly down near the Vic border has sent a 1.5m swell north. There has also been a nor easterly swell of 1m coming from Lord Howe, but you feel a westerly on your cheek. The 1.5m will be swell1, the smaller swell from the NE is swell2 and the 0.2m whipped up by the local westerly is the wave or wind wave. Different lumps of water coming from different directions with different sizes and periods. I'm not the guru but that's how I was taught to interpret the sea state predictions. Cheers, Pat

Hi Norm, thanks for this video. When looking at swell and waves, do the two add together? Eg swell 1.3 and waves 1.6 is 2.9?
@CruisingEastCoastAus10 күн бұрын
Great question. Wind waves and swell are independent. Waves and swell from the same direction stack up every now and then. Soyo'll be getting lots of 1m waves and then a 2.5m outa the blue.

Thanks Norm, Very informative. What App do you recommend for place names, as many not shown on Navionics.

Haven't thought about it much, but maybe Google maps or earth.

im using windy (premium subscription) on an IPAD, and the favourites/pinned appear to work a bit differently (to what you showmwhich is a windows version of the app) for example…. i cant drag the different fav layers like yo do..

Yep it is different on my phone too. I guess it has a bit to do with screen size.

The product shown in the clip is not the product in the title. They are produced by different companies and have no relationship.

@@CruisingEastCoastAus With respect, that's not what it says at the top of the page, in the middle, in your excellent presentation. They are two different companies with two different products. I wrote to one of them, (the one shown on screen, not the one used in the title of the clip) and confirmed it. I have tried numerous times to give a clear explanation in a post here, but every time I use one or both of their business names, ( which are both web addresses ) the comment is not accepted.
