I'm about 90% sure that this was the board I butchered. I won't make excuses, because I really had no business attempting this, but I was backed into a corner. I had done a lot of research into how to do this repair, and was going to attempt the same thing you just did after watching a few of your previous videos, but I didn't have anything like the zxwtool to tell me what test points corresponded to the pins I needed to connect. I am very glad someone was able to get this thing going, because I dug a 40-50 hour hole with this thing that there was no way out of for me. Great job!

This one was from a school. It is a common problem though. Use enough heat to pull the connector and you'll be fine

Hi Jessa, I've got an iphone 5c which has a portion of the digitizer dead. I'm sure the screen is fine, had a look at the microscope and didn't find any visible damaged components. I've resoldered the digitizer joints but is still the same, should I replace the digitizer connector or the digitizer ic? Thank you!

Jessa I ripped pad 7 and 10 on an iPad Mini dock connecter. Should I jump pad 7 to DZ5702 and 10 pad to L5704 or are there any good test points on the other side of the board? So that I don't have to remove the shield to access DZ5702 & L5704.

FX951 will not power tweezers, only irons! You need FM-202 or FM-203 to power tweezers.

Hi Jessa - have you never experienced problems using this technique where high-speed digital signals are used on the pulled pad? I'm thinking controlled impedance to the ground plane, and also propagation delay where differential signal pairs are involved - I imagine that would totally go out the window with this. Obviously that means degraded signal integrity, but I'm just wondering whether it makes enough of a difference to make the device not work. I actually have exactly the same problem with a pulled pad on an FPC connector with a tiny via in the middle, and I'm tempted to use your technique but I'm wondering whether to attempt a much trickier operation of digging into the board around the exposed via to try to find the trace on the inner layer, then soldering to that, as that would more closely mimic the electrical characteristics of the original board. I would much appreciate if you shared your experience on this if you have the time! Thanks in advance.

+Dmitry Smirnov personally I expose the trace and solder to it...but that's just because it's easy enough with practice and you don't have to remove the board from the housing. We recommend beginners solder to the test point. There is no practical difference. A mini with a jumper soldered to the test point will never experience a problem with touch from this repair.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! Could you please clarify - by "expose the trace" do you mean digging into the layer underneath as I described to expose the trace on the inner layer? I'm talking specifically about the scenario of a pulled pad with a via underneath it, where the trace is on an inner layer. My pulled pad is actually on an iPhone 6 and it's one of the signals going to the Tristar from the charging FPC connector, it appears to be part of a differential pair as far as I can tell from the schematic, so whereas luckily there is a test pad on the opposite side of the board, I'm a bit concerned with degrading the signal by routing a jumper over to the opposite side - however if you say that it will still work, that may well be what I will end up doing as that's far easier. Thanks again!

is this true ..........To load one of the schematics for a certain phone, just select the phone model from the list on the left and double click. The schematics are updated periodically via the internet, so there is no need to buy a new dongle or download the software with each new update. It’s done automatically.

Here we have at least still laws and the government still holds the opinion that a state or government is only legitimate if it helps the citizen, not if it hinders him . or her. Looks great, but I'm concerned about it accessing the information over the internet. Seems like something Apple will very quickly shut down once they see it gaining traction. I guess if you get a couple repairs out of it then its paid for itself though, so probably still worth it even if it doesn't last. Would be a lot nicer if the data was also stored on the drive. Would LOVE to see one for Macbooks too.

I don't see how Apple could shut down zxwtool. It appears to be reverse engineered from boards that they sell to the public. This is not an Apple branded "leaked" tool. It is independent information that could be gathered from the products they release. They can't claim ownership of someone else's intellectual property. There has been a similar boardview software tool out for MacBooks for years--Landrex--that is commonly available with every MacBook schematic

The suppliers of the zxw tool have just selling stolen wares on a dongle. It is useful but they are ripping everyone off. I have it on my hard drive a dongle is not needed nor at any cost. Whilst this is against some peolple ethics, I feel with them steeling it originally and charging has opened them up as fair game. It is freely available on the internet
