Known colloquially as "cole crops," the word "cole" comes from the Latin "caulis" meaning "stem" and the German word "kohl" for cabbage. It's where the shredded cabbage dish coleslaw gets its name.

Andrew, Will you please do a episode explaining what sizes and designations of plastic trays for the veggie plants you sell and those you transplant there on the farms? Also in another episode will you cover what vegetables you do not grow...onions, carrots, melons, radishes, lettuces, etc. and explain why you do not grow them?

I'm our family farm manager and we grow row crops only. I really enjoy all of your videos. I used to have a large garden but since I retired I live in a subdivision that does not allow gardens. So I get my gardening fix by watching all of your videos. You and your family really represent what is good about America. Please keep up the GREAT work and take care of your children!!

Andrew…this is coming from a master gardener who is the recipient of 3 back surgeries and the last one was pins, rods and a lazy cadaver bone. Once you damage your back there is no fixing it. Do take care of yourself and don’t ignore your back. Life is tough but with serious back issues it’s far tougher! I thoroughly enjoy your vlogs, your family and of course the animals. I just wish there was a cheat sheet for who fits where. I have your cute little family figured out but where do some of the others fit in? Becky for one…Petie is another and my list goes on. I’m trying to get through the backlog of videos but there are quite a few so could you help a 65 year old out and put the family puzzle together for me? Just curious. And your plant material is beautiful and healthy…too bad I live in Michigan or I would buy from you and forgo the process of doing all my own starts. Enjoy your visits immensely…thanks for enlightening and entertaining me!!!:):):)

I was watching a stable life about a year ago Joel, Andrews cousin, went through the whole family. I'm 65 and remember most but there is no way I could put it all down 😂😂 Andrew has also told at different times who is who. Petie I can tell you, though, is just the boy next-door. Who likes jumping the fence and helping out. Joel's wife and Andrews are sisters as well. They're the easy ones. Good luck with the rest.😅

HI Andrew, I am over in northeast Illinois and grow about 4 acres of vegetables on my mini farm. Way behind on planting as it has rained about every 3 days and just to wet to get out. My first planting of sweet corn is just a fraction less than your. Maybe this weekend I'll get the cole crops out and then tomatoes and peppers. The green house is full. I really enjoy watching you guys farm, its great the way you tell people what framers do and how their food is grown. Take care of yourself an the entire family. And I have to say you sure have some really rocky and lumpy ground to work to grow vegetable s on, you guys do a really great job of making that ground work for you.

We had a planter similar to that. A holland pull type, but the closing wheels ran the planting cups/fingers, and had dry fertilizer box too. The fertilizer was ran by a small wheel that contacted the big tires of the trailer part, and a few chains. Put the fertilizer in the row, which on tobacco, was around 1000 pounds to the acre.

I can't even begin to tell you how much, at the age of 52, I have to constantly think about what I'm doing because of my back. Nerve damage from riding accidents, repeated muscle damage from over compensating trying to ignore it (because everything's ok, I'm a tough horse woman, I got this), and now permanent damage from a head on car accident thanks to someone on my side of the road. Listen to those twinges. When it flicks you, and tells you to behave, it's really not kidding. As frustrating as it is to listen to its warnings, it's better than the alternative.

I'm surprised you didn't plant cauliflower this spring. I've always been impressed with your harvest considering I've never been successful growing mature decent cauliflower no matter what seed I use and even if I baby it with perimeter fencing, shade, and constant water. I have 12 in the ground right now and absolutely know my disappointment is imminent in 20 -24 weeks. I'm 198 miles due south of you.
