Easy to apply too much when you love the scent. It's like overspraying perfume if the want the scent to last longer throughout the day. Difference is, the oil doesn't dry out like perfume does. And your beard is left greasy with a little shine to it. Luxurious Bastard, Kingsmen and The Bearded bastard solves that problem though because of their bold scents so you don't need that much.

I have a short grey beard. I initially used half a dropper from a two-ounce bottle. Despite having a good diet and staying hydrated, my beard would dry out after a few hours. I've now increased the amount of oil to three-quarters of a dropper from the same two-ounce bottle, and I'm using a more significant amount of balm, going from a small amount the size of a fingernail to a more significant amount the size of a thumbnail. So far, I'm pleased with the results of increasing the oil and balm and how that has improved the look and feel of my beard.

I might add, depends on what viscosity the oil is, I use less of heavier castor based oils. Even though I’m at 6” my beard drinks up about a full dropper. If I over do my measurement with a restrictor top I put that oil to use on my neck and tattoos. I have a good friend that is using more then me and has a even shorter beard. Porosity is a very real thing. Great video Dan.

Excellent work, Dan! Curly White 4" beard. 6 or 7 drops. Another check: I apply drops to my fingers, and rub them together. After spreading the oil on my skin and beard, my fingers may feel a bit oily, but not look oily or greasy. Comb down touching skin all the way, up, then down again but straight down past jawline. Acetate (Kent) comb should show no oil. Wood comb may benefit from rubbing between fingers or palms, and again no oily look or feel. 1.) 👍 2.) 5"-6" 3.) Make sure that your really working the oil into your skin so. If its just the surface of your beard the oil is on then you may be using the right amount of oil but it may appear to be too much since the oil may stay on the surface of your beard. Also, if your beard is too wet when applying the oil; you may be using the right amount but since oil is more dence than water, your oil may ware off faster or may not absorb at all into your skin. Alot of factors to consider when using beard oil. Keep notes to give you an idea of how much oil you used "quarter rule", how dry was your beard when you applied it, and also the greeseiness test after 30 minutes. Awesome video Dan! 👊

Hi Dan, I’ve often wondered about how much beard oil to use. When my beard was short I didn’t use any. At yeard length about half a dipper would do. Currently the beard is 18 inches long and it takes a full dropper or about two nickel size shakes from a restricted bottle. Of course all beard oil is not the same so there is some variation in these measurements and frequency of application. And yes trial and air is how I figured this out. The amount of oil to maintain a long beard at first caught me off guard. I have not trimmed my beard in about three years and it is still growing. The goal is terminal length. I may have to buy a share in a beard product company to maintain this lifestyle. Thanks for the great content.

6 drops to the skin for a 6 inch beard measured from bottom lip, few minutes after I do apply additional beard butter for styling and hydrating my beard. This is pushing the lower limits of oil for my skin and I do need to use more when I use heat or when I don't use beard butter.

My beard is 4 1/2" & growing. I've got psoriasis & it depends on which brand of oil I'm using. Most of the time I use 5-7 drops twice a day, including a butter to keep the moisture in. Black Rebel's Emu oil is amazing on my skin so I'll use 4-5 drops.

Thanks Dan. Short beard, and i use 5-6 drops 2x daily. I've actually noticed a decease in beard acne since using beard oil. The couple of problems I did have, actually cleared up much quicker with the use of oil vs. before using the oil.

Excellent video mate. My beard is 5” straight down. I use about 10 drops that seems to do the trick. I figured out the use in moderation from not really knowing a few years back and would use a whole dropper. Was a nightmare every time I would take a call my cell would be all oily and if I touched my beard oily mitts. So like you said trial and error. I halved the dropper and that was still a bit too much so I kept halving until my beard was happy. And with the increase in length of my beard now I’m at ten drops or there abouts. Great seeing you mate speak soon. Jax.

5 inch beard. I use 3 drops of oil and then after a few minutes hit it with a dollop of beard balm. Usually good for the day.

I’m about half a dropper. But my beard is also one that really absorbs well. I have fairly coarse hair. Because of this I can trick myself into over oiling because how well it will take the first round of oil. But after I blow dry I might take 2 or 3 drops more and just hit the outside again to get it good. No more or it’s a mess. Great video Dan.

I have a 8 inch yeard and make my own oil and butter... Through trial and error I use one dropper of oil... Day or night then cap it with my shea butter, Lanolin based beard butter mix... The lanolin sucks up oil and gives my beard a wonderful silky feel... And leaves a nice non greasy feel... You have to try lanolin to appreciate it. Can also mix with beeswax for more hold... But a little wax is all you need!

6-7 inches. I use one full dropper. If I have butter in I use less. My biggest issue is finding good beard shampoo and conditioner. It can't have alcohol in it. I'd like shampoo and conditioner for head and beard. Can't stand clutter in shower. Good show.

Any shampoo designed for beards can be used on your head hair, but I do not recommend it the other way

I'm a fairly new beard-dude. Started my beard about 5 months ago. Beard is about 3 inches or so from my bottom lip (hard to really tell the length with waves and kinks). The beard is just getting long enough to garner a couple compliments from other beard-dudes (the beard has finally grown past the "oh, you look distinguished" stage, because I'm 52 and the beard is mostly gray). According to this video, I use too much oil (who woulda thought that more is Not better). Honestly, I may have shaved it off already except my wife likes it (a beard is more work than I thought it would be)! I started out wanting to grown my beard just long enough to look like Sean Connery on Search For Red October, but now I'm thinking I could grow it a few more inches longer.

@@DanCBearded I've found that about 8-10 drops seems to be about the right amount. It may seem like that is still a bit much, but I live in a drier climate, and it seems to absorb pretty well. It also depends on the brand. My beard seems to love Whisky n Hardtack, it soaks right up! Thanks for the information and the loads of content Dan C, you're a champion! :D

Beard is about 3.5 inches long. I use about 10-15 drops which gets me to that nickle size on my hand. Never done the 30 minute test but just did and I'm good to go. I have over poured some oils before but in that case I just work it in my beard and then throw as much extra as I can in my head hair, on my arms, just wherever so I don't end up rinsing it down the sink

My beard is 8 1/2” to 9” long. I use 7 drops of oil directly onto my skin, work that in, then about a finger nails size of balm or butter. Doesn’t seem like much but at night I use a generous amount of coconut oil and shea butter. That usually lasts 4-6 hours.

Just found your channel - subscribed - great video. Length: Short - about 4". Amount of oil: 5-7 drops (but only about 1 or 2 times a week currently). Experience: Just retired and decided to see how long I can grow my beard - cause I can. I've never had more than a 1" or 2" beard length before - usually was just a goatee, so just trying to learn how to live with a longer beard - I might go all ZZ Top - just because I can. (Thankfully my wife is supportive). I appreciate the practical advice - I'll give the 30 minute test a try as my beard length increases.
