OH MY GOSH! I'm so glad I found this vid! Thank you so much for simplifying it for the newbies like me! You hear people in other videos say a lot about the vector lines, and layers and they are using all of the digital art language that I don't fully understand yet but here, you really break it all down and explain each step! Can't thank you enough!

Not only was this a really solid quick tutorial, but looking at your replies in the comments solved a question that had been giving me so much frustration - the fact that CSP does not actually support the Fill tool on vector layers. Now I know to just use vector lineart on a larger canvas if I mean to print something! Thank you.

Good video, Eric! FWIW, I do ALL my inking on Vector Layers. IMO, there are so many disadvantages to *_NOT_* doing so (is that a double backward somersault negative?), that it makes sense to always use Vector Layers. In addition to all the very good tips you had, Vector Layers are also good for drawing mechanical objects, especially using the Continuous Curve tool (essentially the Bezier Tool in most other vector apps), which allows you to mix straight and curved line segments within the same path.

Yeah vector is nice for filling lol. Also a little easier to make adjustments. Just wish it full vector with fill ability on the vector layer like with most vector programs hehe

@@EricFaries Yeah, Word Balloons are a sort of _de facto_ Adobe Illustrator-style Vector art, though I could never figure out how to do anything useful with 'em. I think Celsys *_could_* do regular vectors; it would just add additional complexity in the form of stacking order and such. Clip Studio can be a pretty daunting program at first as it is! _LOL_

Cool video, I just have a question, is it possible to change colour of the line art drawn in vector ?
@EricFaries3 жыл бұрын
Yes, as long as it's vector, after laying down the lines just switch over to the Object tool, click on the lines you want to change, and then in the tool properties you'll notice an area for line color.

Hi Eric, nice video and easy to see, related to vector layers, I create my final art by vectors to be more specific, a logo, sadly same that the svg format only carry the outline, no fill, no nothing, only vectors, any solution for that?

You could search on "vector coloring clip studio" in KZbin and maybe you'll find the solution. :) (I don't want to promote another video directly 😅 but it's an official tutorial from Clip Studio Paint)

To change the color after you've placed it, switch to the Object tool, click on the line you wish to change, and over in the Tool Properties tab you should see Color

Thanks for this video!... Is there any way to paint inside the vector layer?. It'd be helpful when animating, to keep the color of elements along the timeline. Regards,
@EricFaries2 жыл бұрын
No, not in CSP. For features like that'd you'd need an animation software that is mainly vector based, like Moho Studio, Flash, or Toon Boom. The vector lineart ability in CSP is mainly to help make manipulating the lines must easier and cleaner before you get to the coloring stage.

Hi, I've done my manga inking on a vector layer. Now I would like to tone/shade the pages. Am I not gonna be able to do it since it's a vector layer? What if I merge the layer? How can I tone my pages? Thank you
@EricFaries3 жыл бұрын
I mean, it's better to do all your coloring and tone work on different layers anyway. That way you don't lose your linework in case you need to change things. Just make sure your fill bucket tool is set to reference multiple layers. It even has an option for vector referencing which is helpful

Does CSP let you colour each line separately on a vector layer?
@EricFaries Жыл бұрын
Yes, every individual line can have it's own color. I'd recommend cleaning up the lines a bit before that, like merging some together, that way it's easier to select them for re-coloring.

I wish i would’ve known how useful the curve tool was in vector layers. I never really mess with a lot of tools as i mostly freehand everything i draw, but i really should, i’m sure my life would be a lot easier. I have a question for you. I cel shade a lot of my art, as i don’t really understand smooth shading or how to do it. If i ever rotate a part be it to fix something or if i’m animating something, I find that the colors tend to blend together in a rather gross way. Do you know of any ways to remedy or prevent this as we don’t have vector coloring(yet, hopefully they decide to add it soon)?

Hey Taylor, as long as your vector line is on a vector layer, you can select it using the object select tool (cube with a cursor) and then look at the Tool Property window to see all the things you can change!

I’m trying to get into logo making and I know working with Vectors is important when making them . So, can you color in vector or just raster ? Following this tutorial, can a customer enlarge their image I make with no problem ?
@EricFaries3 жыл бұрын
With this software only the lines can be vector. The colors would be on a raster layer bellow, so the safest bet would be to make the Logo very large. That way it has a lot of resolution to work with. You CAN export the vector layer, so if you wanted to do the lineart here, and then bring those into say Inkscape to do the coloring in Vector as well, you could do that.

I CANT SEE THE COLOR LAYER IN MY CLIP STUDIO PRO ?
@angelnippy3 жыл бұрын
what if i wanna color the lineart like disney style?Thanks in advance!
@VergilPrime3 жыл бұрын
I would use a raster layer above the lineart and then right click that layer, click layer settings and then "Clip to Layer Below." This will use the lineart's alpha channel (transparency) while showing the colors of the raster layer, so you can paint over the lineart with any color you like!

Hey question, can you shade and light while using only vector lines?
@EricFaries3 жыл бұрын
Unlike almost any vector based art software, CSP currently doesn't let you make a filled vector object on one layer. So you can outline where you want shadows to go, but you'd have to use another layer to then fill those areas in.

I really wana learn how to use vector to enlarge or shrink images but he totally lost me when he tried to explain that part. Everything else was great tho.....TILL that part HOW is he doing all this stuff while using the fill tool?????? 12:44 Has 0 explanation for how he selects the image and then scales it all I see is that he's on the fill tool which obviously has nothing to do with any of what he's doing. Very frustrating for me to watch.
@EricFaries2 жыл бұрын
All i was doing was picking the lineart layer, and then hitting "Ctrl+T" to transform whatever is on the layer. I didn't have to make a selection since i wanted to scale everything that was on that layer. My having the fill tool was irrelevant there since the tool you have selected doesn't effect the transform function.
