Hi Paul, Thanks for your great videos I use an old Leica 50 mm 2.8 collapsible M lens on my SL2S and it is a match made in heaven. Also a 40 mm F.2 Rockkor (summicron) made by Minolta in the 80's for the CLE wich was a Minolta CL due to the alliance between Leica and Minolta. I found it new from new old stock in Japan version 2 with multi coating. It is an absolute little gem. Thanks for sharing

@@paulreidphotography Hi Paul, One which is fantastic too is the V4 of the 50 summicron from 1979 to 1994. Best

That's precisely what I do as well. Using vintage lenses on my SL2-S. Got a set of R Primes that I use primarily for video and a 50mm and 35mm Summicron M that I use interchangeably with my M4P. Can't have a more compact 2-camera setup. That's all I have. And yes, you are right; AF lenses make the camera heavy and bulky. That's why I sold the Elmarit 24-90 after 3 years. With some training, focusing will be as quick as with AF, with the advantage that placing the focus isn't dependent on algorithms, freeing creativity. Great videos!!

I was thinking of getting old brilliant Nikon glass at some point. But they focused the other way around, and I didn't want to confuse my muscle memory.

hey paul, really interesting to see you using these vintage lenses.50 years ago I purchased 3 pentax super multi-coated takumar lenses. a 55mm f1.8 and a 28mm f3.5 that i use on my micro 4/3 G9 panasonic and the 105mm f2.8 on my full-frame panasonic S5 and the results are acceptional. pentax in those years were using the leica lenses as the gold standard and tried to achieve the same quality as the leica lenses. thx for all the great videos you are producing for us ! zen billings in canada

Oh yeah, Takumars are so great ! I have a 50 1.4 (aka radioactive b*tch) and used it with Xpro 3, Sigma fp and Lumix S1R with great results as well. A joy to use, and wide open, it has a very special look. Love these old lenses ! 😍

I also use vintage lenses on my LeicaSL 601 (bought used last year). I have an old Leicaflex (don’t use much anymore) and a LeicaR7 so I got a metabones R to L adapter. I already had a SummicronR 50mm and a SummicronR 35mm. I watch a bunch of KZbins and every once and a while somebody will say something - almost in passing - that’s extremely helpful. You mentioned using the joy stick to help with focusing. I just tried it! I feel like I just got a new camera. 😂 I sometimes wear contact lenses and sometimes glasses so focusing can be a problem for me; always adjusting. Thanks for this tip!

Hi Paul, I do this a long time now. What I use to adapt, is a fokal reduktor. This cracy thing makes the lense one step lighter, and the crop factor will be eliminated. My favorits are: PENTACON 2.8/135, Asahi-Pentax 1.4/50mm, and a Steinheil-München 4.5/135mm. Thanks for all your input and Know-how! Best regards, Dirk (DT-Classics, Germany)

Small correction: The word I wanted to use wasn't lighter, but brighter... ;-) Yes, absolutely, it becomes a feeling of full frame on the APS-C camera.

hi paul, i love using my olympus zuiko 55mm 1.2 lens on the leica sl2s. it has such a small dop and weird distorsion wide open that gives the pictures a surreal touch. and obviously adapting m lenses is a blast as well! i even bought an adapter for my pentax 67 glass but that just looks super odd and - so far - was not worth it.

The beauty of the older lenses that still produce excellent results is - you can have a whole stable full of most all focal lengths for less money than a single Leica lens. Imagine having such a deep choice that each time you head out you get to pick a lens or two and have a smaller, lighter, compact kit.
