Hi Stu, when i reset I get all the folders on my desktop event though I have shortcuts on my desktop and unzipped to their own folders.. Any ideas? Thank you. Tony.

Hi Stu, great video. My question is once I have set, send and receive to NO, and then upload the adi file to LOTW, then once every thing is up on LOTW go and set sent to Yes, do I then leave it on YES moving forward with uploads on closing the program? Regards Brent G5TV
@AG6AG5 күн бұрын
That is correct. Leave it set to YES. Stu AG6AG

I'm not great at math, but followed your formulas as closely as possible. Hopefully I used my calculator properly. Anyway, can you do a double check on my figures. My antenna is a yagi, triband Cushcraft A3S with 8dbi gain up 11 meters. (roof peak = 15.5' plus up 21' on a mast for 36.5 feet. I run 500 watts (sometimes) ssb or CW. RG213 coax 55' long. I came up with a min distance power density of 0.1062 @ 100w pep; 0.5311@500w pep; and for the future 1500w pep, 1.593 . . . I didn't figure all the other stuff you did for cable loss etc because I don't know how. N7BUD

I love it-welcome to what I teach in all of my Technician level classes! (and disturbingly, often have to teach in Amateur Extra classes also). Oh, another handy addition is 1dB, or a ~20.6% increase. Close enough to call it 20%. So if 40dBm=10W, 41dBm=48W. I wish the League's license manuals would spend more time on this method and less on the pure mathematics. de W6KME

I have two BF's GT-5R and a UV-K5 Plus. Basically only the GT is clean. The rest are all the same old board with just different stuff soldered to it. We should stop buying them till they make some more up to date boards. The difference is probably 0.02 cents of filtering.

Color me confused but you said the crimp connector was spinning on the coax, then hacked off a standard solder Amphenol (new ones suck btw) to replace it with another crimp? If that wasn't the bad connector you cut off why cut it so close, you could've made a short jumper with it... But I digress.

Stu, a setting in my Yaesu 991A changed, and I can no longer use Winlink P2P packet 1200. I suspect it may be the COM port selection in the settings for Soundmodem as to the modem. Under PTT, did you select the standard Silicon Labs COM port or the enhanced Silicon Labs COM port for use with the 991A? Thanks.
@caroleemoreno80862 ай бұрын
Hey Stu! Thank you! I have a question. My Vara Hf winlink works great, but when I use HF P2P the tones that are generated upon attempting to connect are barely audible and I have difficulty connecting. Tones when using an RMS are perfectly loud and clear. Any insight as to why the P2P tones would be so weak compared to RMS?
@AG6AG2 ай бұрын
Hi Carolee, Since the audio levels are correct for RMS contact and do not change when sending via P2P, My assumption is the station you are sending to does not have their Vara levels properly set on their side. The only thing I'd verify is that your radio is setup the exact same way as it is for connecting to RMS. Make sure that the mode is set to Data if you normally have it set to Data for your RMS connection. Hope that helps, Stu AG6AG

I am giving my pc to a nephew. Will they have to have the windows key for windows to work? (without watermark)
@AG6AG2 ай бұрын
Normally no. The key is in the TPM and is also saved in the recovery partition, so when you select the reset it should leave him with a fresh install to configure and not require an additional key. If this is an older PC that was upgraded from Windows 7, it may require him to enter the Windows 7 key at setup, but that key should be attached to the PC chassis. Hope that helps, Stu AG6AG

Just out of curiosity, could you just use standard coaxial cable for a tv and throw on pl-259 adapters at either end to use it as a UHF coaxial cable? I apologize if that's a silly question, but I'm new to this, so please humor me....
@AG6AG2 ай бұрын
That's actually a very common question when someone is new to Amateur Radio. The answer is that you can use any 50 Ohm cable for Amateur Radio. TV and Satellite cable is usually 75 Ohms so you should not use it. Now, this is an oversimplified explanation, because you could use it if you can make it appear as 50 Ohms to the back of the radio... This is actually harder then you would think. Hope that sheds a little light on the subject... Stu AG6AG

The center top long element is for 6 meters but will need adjustment probably In you video you did not show the SWR for all the other bands that its designed for 25 mhz to 1300 could you reply to my comment I am setting up a recieve system for any signal any band all rf digital or analog. You will get better transmit signal with colinear antenna but this saves you money. I'm a disabled USMC vet that can't work but tinkers all day with my radios 73 AA4CP Fort Pierce FL on the beach
