Using your Fire tablet: Turn the VoiceView screen reader on and off

Welcome to your Fire tablet. This video explains how to turn the VoiceView screen reader on and off, and how to access the VoiceView tutorial on your Fire tablet.
VoiceView is Amazon's screen reader that speaks on-screen text out loud on Amazon devices. It’s designed for people who are blind or who have low vision to manage your tablet’s settings, use apps, read books, play videos, and more.
To turn on your Fire tablet, press and hold the power button until you hear a chime.
Once the tablet completes the boot up process, you’ll hear a second chime. At that point, you can activate the VoiceView screen reader.

Hold the power button until you hear an alert, then release the power button and hold two fingers slightly apart on the screen. You will hear “Keep holding down two fingers to enable VoiceView. VoiceView ready.”
Once activated, you can then choose the VoiceView language and dialect. You can turn off VoiceView by selecting ‘Exit VoiceView’ during the select language and the select dialect screens.
You can also turn on VoiceView after your device has been set-up. From the Home screen, turn VoiceView on by going to Settings, navigating down to Accessibility, then scrolling down and selecting VoiceView screen reader.
A tutorial is offered when VoiceView is launched for the first time. You can always access the VoiceView Tutorial at any time when VoiceView is enabled. It is available near the bottom of the VoiceView settings options.
The tutorial provides information on how to use VoiceView, including basic gestures, text entry, and device navigation.
Double tap Basic Gestures Lesson to learn how to activate an item, select an item by swiping, and explore by touch. You can exit the tutorial at any time by using the Exit or Previous button.
If you want to practice just the VoiceView gestures, you can activate "Learn Mode" at any time by double-tapping with four fingers. To exit Learn Mode, double-tag again with four fingers.
