@@learnelectronics I assume you lose ALL of the Amazon apps that are on the device? Does it wipe the flash drive of everything AMAZON except the OS? I have a Fire 10 and and old Fire 8. I think I'll play around with the 8 first. It's funny, I used to build PCs back when it was the 8086 chip. Got into programming for a few years but my career got me too busy. That was back in the late 1980s & 90s. I'd love to get back into it but being +60yr old I'm afraid I might forget what I'm doing. 😂

Easy to follow tutorial. Looking forward to being able to watch some movies and shows on my Fire 10 without annoying lagging. Couldn't get HBO Max to install, though, and it won't let me read stories from Google (it says to check Parental Control settings even though I don't have any set). just used tutorial for the Fire 11 max coming from my beloved samsung Tab 2 ( yes 11 years old and still going ok apart from the battery time) I have just used latest Toolbox V3.1.0, Thank you for the information.. I got an Amazon 10 last year. When my Fitbit Charge 5 arrived I became infuriated when I quickly learned Amazon won't allow me to install Fitbits premium health app on the Fire tablet. Those SOB's sell the Fitbit sports band but only support their sports band app on the Fire. I'm getting this 8" tomorrow and can't wait to switch search engines to Google with your great instructions. Another thing that appalls me is Amazon forces me to give them access to each of my email addresses to them to receive my email. This solution will help me break this dysfunctional relationship with Amazon. UP THEIR YOU KNOW WHAT.

@@skf957 according to their own license agreement, you are only renting the software. But they are treating the devices as a rental when they lock things down and deny you access to the hardware. All they want is your money and information and they don't want to give you anything in return not even the hardware.

They're still on your tablet from Amazon but "out of sight" so Amazon won't allow you to use Google's versions. You can always go back and add ONLY those three, then anything that isn't available in the Amazon Store you should be able to get from the Google Play Store if they have it. That has worked for me, anyway, and I have an 8" Amazon Fire 10th generation.

I have a new HD8 plus. 2024 I have many amazon Kindle books, which I downloaded to my s galaxy phone, and they automatically went on to my tablet. I don't want to lose them it sounds like they will be taken off the tablet, which was my main reason for getting this tablet. Should I forget about this procedure in order to keep them, or is there a way to have both. The whole reason I started to investigate this is I wanted to put the playstore app on the tablet so I could get Esty & more. I found good directions but sounds so complicated.
