Watch him conducting the Star Wars theme live with the Vienna Philharmonic. The orchestra was trying to go faster than he was conducting, so "if looks could kill", the orchestra would be dead! A few measures in, the orchestra slowed to where he wanted it to be.

As with all of you, I love this underrated score (I liked the movie, too!) It is a miracle and a blessing that John Williams, at 92, is still productive. His work covers every style, every need. For those who think only in terms of bombastic blockbusters, I say listen to "The Reivers," "Schindler's List," the "1941" dance contest scene, and... well, you get my drift!

If this movie wasn’t the box office joke that it was, I believe that this march would have been one of the most well known and most performed works by John Williams, as opposed to somewhat of an afterthought. Like Bernstein’s Candide Overture (which also was the music to a flop), it practically saves the movie from complete oblivion. I can’t think of a better concert opener. One tempo from start to finish (as opposed to Raiders March or Star Wars Main Theme) and light, fresh and fun. Reminds me of Morton Gould’s American Salute. I wish this were performed more.

Just wondering WHO is stuffing the vote for this piece ... there just cannot be any other explanation for this piece beating out Holst's Moorside March, and Fucik's Entry of the Gladiators (aka "Thunder & Blazes"), at least not based upon the instances in this playlist ... could it be the SAME person(s) stuffing the vote for Hands Across the Sea, which beat out Williams' Raiders March and Sousa's Washington Post March ... if this piece gets to the final, someone has been playing a numbers game, because of the four Williams' marches in the 2021 March Mania, I find it difficult to believe that this piece doesn't bring up the rear behind Raiders, Imperial March and Superman ...
