I believe that section is based on _Shenandoah_. Such a great section of an amazing piece! My kids made up crazy words to go to that part when we played it. I remember it started with "Oh should I stay, or should I go... " In my opinion, this is one of the best works ever written for concert band, and my students loved playing it, and I loved teaching it. This is definitely the go-to recording, unless you can also come up with the Westfield HS (Spring ISD Texas, Philip Geiger conducting) band playing it. From the Wikipedia / The National Wind Repertory Project website: Sea Songs was written for the 350th anniversary of the city of Boston. It was premiered by the United States Marine Band, Col. John R Bourgeois conducting, at the Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston, May, 1980. It is based on nautical songs and sea chanties. - Program Note from the score After opening with a nod to Debussy’s La Mer, Sea Songs primarily features two sea shanties: Shenandoah and What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor. The setting is both hauntingly beautiful and gymnastic for the band as Knox pushes boundaries of ensemble technique.
