USMC Veteran's First Time / Grand Canyon And Winslow, Arizona

Although our Trans America Trail trip was unexpectedly cut short doesn't mean we can't make the best of our time out west! So we decided to take Matt, a USMC veteran, to see all the splendor the Grand Canyon has to offer and we even took a little trip to Winslow, Arizona to show him what is one of the most famous corners in the world.

That statue Matt stood next to was actually Jackson Browne, the statue that is on the right of that is Glenn Frey. Jackson Browne wrote the lyrics to Take it Easy based on an experience he had in Flagstaff, Arizona. The Jackson Browne statue is the original, the Glenn Frey statue was put in several years later; bought and paid for by a local radio station in Phoenix, AZ.

Here’s a real challenge for ya... ride toToroweap at the North end of the Grand Canyon. It’s about 75 miles of tough dirt road out of Hurricane, Utah, and sooooo incredible. No walls, railings, or crowds, just pure exposure & beauty of the Grand Canyon.

Originally Evel was interested in jumping the Grand Canyon ( much narrower spot of course) but the park service was the obstacle. The Snake River in Idaho is primarily privately owned so permitting/permission was substantially easier. Even though he knew he wasn't ready or going to make it he continued due to contractual obligations with investors and fear of repercussions if cancelled.

Tanya Tucker was born and raised in Winslow, AZ. Actually they say that Copper Canyon in Mexico south of Texas is as large or larger than the Grand Canyon.

Adam The canyon that Evel Knievel jumped was Snake River Canyon just outside of Twin Falls Idaho the jump ramp is still there

The deepest canyon in North America is Hells Canyon in Idaho which is between 7000 to 9000 feet deep for the Snake River.

Correct, originally he wanted to jump the Grand Canyon (in a much narrower spot, of course) but the park service was the obstacle. The Snake in Idaho however is primarily privately owned therefore much easier to get permission.

Lmao thanks for bringing back a great memory from my college days in Arizona. I was down in Tucson but would go up north on adventures now and then. We used to call the Grand Canyon " Fred Harvey's big hole". He was the businessman who started some of the first hospitality/ hotels for travelers out west of which The grand canyon was a big destination. Thanks as always for bringing smiles to me when I watch your videos.

The Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon in Tibet is the largest canyon in the world. It's a couple of hundred miles longer and twice as deep in spots as the Grand Canyon.. According to Wikipedia anyway...
