Another Update - Per ECFMG, In order to make life easier for most IMGS, for the first few years, even if your country does not have wfme accreditation after 2024, you can still apply with pre 2024 criteria (WDOMS Post 2024 + Sponsor Notes). Similarly for the first few years post 2024, even if your country gets WFME accredited, the individual medical school must also be in WDOMS + Have Sponsor Notes.

With due respect, there are several misstatements. If country's national accrediting body is not approved by 2024, students can still apply and get ECFMG certified. However, their ERAS profile will show that they are coming from a country that doesn't have WFME accreditation. And form 186 registration doesn't protect you against it.

What about NCFMEA? That's the other organization tasked with accrediting the comparability of other countries accreditation programs in relation to the United States, and is available in the ECFMG certification pathway 4. Will that no longer be accepted?

Good evening doctor manik, I am 2nd year medical graduate from ukraine, due to war I don't think so, ukraine is going to apply for accredition process in 2k23 ir by 2k24. So my point is, if I get my Ecfmg certification by 2k23 and apply for step 1 in 2k25 ( as I need one more year to prepare) would I be recognized, or would I be able to give my steps even if my country is not accreditted as per wfme? @@shivamchaudhry5959 it seems to be valid for ever (except something extreme happen) as far as I know. But if you generated your form 186 before 2018 it will just last valid for 5 years.

@@memonaso4610 no! This form alone can’t help you anywhere! Even if u gave step1&2 yet it won’t be enough cuz during match if your country is not recognised it will definitely degrade your match results! Just hope that nothing stupid like this happen in 2024

But as far as I understand, even if your country is not reconized you can still get ECFMG certification and apply in the Match and get a residence (if you began the process before 2024). The fact that your country is not reconized will affect your chances to get high competives residences. But at the end of the day you will be able to get (at least) the less competitives residences after all. Am I right? Let me know. Sorry for my english On the other hand. If you want to begin the process in 2024 of after your country MUST be reconized to be able to continue the process. Otherwise you can't. I am from ecuador (a not reconized conuntry), but I want internal medicine (is not a very competitive residency) so I hope it will not affect me too much.

So it's about the accredited council in your country not the school. What I've been told is that my Med school should be accredited by ECFMG directly not through the medical council.

She has various options of studying in Canada and US as below. Which option gives her better chance: Option1: Canada (School, UnderGrad, Med College) + US (Residency) Option2: Canada (School, UnderGrad) + US ( Med College, Residency) Option3: Canada (School) + US ( UnderGrad, Med College, Residency) I found that admission to med school is very competitive. So I emailed ECFMG to confirm this and they state that If you apply for ecfmg registration before 2024, the new rule won't affect you. You can write your steps without being affected during or after 2024

registration done before 2024 will mean the new rule won't apply to you. the old one will. so you can give your step 1 and step 2 and get certification during or after 2024 without worry about it

If NMC get recognised, one advantage we will have is that we can be now in any medical college in India and still get form 186. But before that it wasn't case.

Hello I want to ask if your med school is not recognised by ecfmg in 2023 does it still need individual recognition after changing of ecfmg rules in 2024 because in 2024 only national body should be recognised. So if one want to give Usmle in 2023 he is not eligible but in 2024 due to change of rules( if your national body is recognised) one is eligible for USMLE. Please reply🙏

Hi Dr. Manik I am Indian and have completed my 10+2 science with PCB and completed my bachelors degree in psychology from India itself. I am keen on attempting to apply to med school in USA directly. However , with my foreign bachelors , it would be difficult for AMCAS to recognise it. How should I go ahead with this without needing to complete another 4 years of pre med?
