If they even get out of their group this idiot Crocker will use this as “proof” that the “program is still on track” and the problem is those Euro based players in the senior team roster. If the Olympic team does well they’ll push their boy Berhalter (no doubt they want to keep him!! 😮) to bring these players up to replace the ones that failed under and a new cycle of players will be misused for the next 2 or 4 or 10 years ( we may be stuck with GgG forever!!!!. I’m rooting against this team….they’ll be no excuses then, things need to change.

USMNT thought they cracked the code when sending players to Europe. What they don’t talk about is how there is only 4-5 players getting meaningful minutes at a high level. That’s not enough to beat anyone that’s relevant. They still have a ways to go before they are a national threat.

Diego Luna has to be in this team along with Vasquez and zendejas (assuming they were allowed to leave and just weren’t asked). However, there are names that I’m very happy to see in the team like Cremaschi and like Jack Mcglynn who this is their chance to maybe break through to the national team and bring a much different playstyle than many of our current midfielders

People upset by this roster need to understand that this is the other side of the coin (the bad one) when sending players to europe. Alot of european clubs do not release players for the olympics since this is not technically a fifa tournament. Guys like Reyna, Tillman, and Pepi were NEVER going to be released for a tournament that starts in the middle of the European pre-season. You want your young national team players in europe? get ready to see MLS based squads in olympics or fifa youth tournaments then.

The Olympics isn't the WC, but guys want to go and the qualifiers take it seriously. France is sending Lacazette, Mateta, and Loic Bade. Argentina is sending Julian Álvarez, Nicolas Otamendi, and Geronimo Rulli. All three were on their WC roster. Guinea is sending Naby Keita, Amadou Diawara, and Abdoulaye Touré all of whom were with their AFCON team. Morocco is sending Achraf Hakimi, Munir Mohamedi, and Soufiane Rahimi. Hakimi and Mohamedi were on their WC team. Egypt is sending Mohamed Elneny and Zizo, both went to the AFCON. Spain is sending a La Masia reunion team, but Juan Miranda, Sergio Gomez, and Abel Ruiz are legit pros. The US could have, and should have, been more aggressive in recruiting its overage players.

@@Vickzq Argentina is sending two guys from its Copa roster and a third who was on their WC team for their overage players. Plus, Cristan Medina, Thiago Almada, Giuliano Simeone, and Lucas Beltrán. They are treating it like a big tournament. France and Spain are sending strong teams despite the Euros being this summer. Guinea is sending 4 guys from this year's AFCON roster. The teams who qualify take it serious. Whether you care or not doesn't change how the qualifying teams and players treat it.

Clubs just never release the players for this. I still remember when a Brazilian player, Rafinha, wanted to play but his club refused. It even ended up going to CAS, which ruled in the clubs favor (which is why clubs are so empowered to just say "no"). But.. Rafinha did it anyway, and his club actually fined him for breach of contract for a massive 700,000 Euros.

The Olympics is a YOUTH tournament. There are youth tournaments all across the globe, of every age bracket imaginable. There's nothing special or unique about the Olympics in football. I understand why clubs don't want to release players for a meaningless tournament, when players these days are already playing way too many games and getting injured left and right because of that.

It's better without promotion system People who advocate demotion are strange. Owners are reluctant to invest if there is a relegation system. Why invest in a risky system? .When a bad team is relegated, the team becomes even worse. Revenues decrease, players leave for the 1st division because they don't want to play in the 2nd division, and the team's value decreases. Owners are likely to reduce investment further In all seriousness, a closed league is good in terms of revenue . In American sports, the players' union, owners, and commissioners also seem to dislike demotion. I am asian

Relegation and promotion help a league more because it keeps teams on their toes and increases overall quality. Mexico removed their relegation and the quality plummeted. The only ones who benefit are the owners of teams and they only care about money. Mexico trying to imitate the American model should be the clearest evidence of how bad an idea it is for the rest of leagues.
