Best strategist and best all-court player. Probably best volleyers in her generation

Henin was a better all-court player and her volleys were excellent. Also had a better serve.

For all the bozos criticizing her lack of a French, clay was actually her best surface. In 1997, she suffered a fall from a horse which left her without any practice going into 5e French ( mind you she had just turned 17) and that undermined her confidence in a final she should have easily won over Iva Majoli, and there is no question that the 1999 final against Steffinwas on her racquet and it was a cruel and hostile crowd turning against her that cost her. People forget that Hi his was a child. She was barely 21 when she basically quit, driven out by a very hostile media and an extremely belligerent Richard Williams - these things thankfully would not be tolerated today.

Martina may not have that obvious physical advantage over other players, like height, strength or power etc; but when she plays, you would notice quite convinced that she had a unique feeling of touching tennis and the tennis intuitive. I would say something a bit similar to another all time fav-player Fed. Watching her playing is quite enjoyable. She also brought a tradtional elegance to the stage, not like many young gen-player in court showing stressing, big-grunging.

2:28 This point is amazing, and explains why so many commentators at the end of her career, when she was on her third one, playing only doubles between 2013 and 2017 and retiring as WORLD N°1 aged 37, just 20 years after the 1st time she became world n°1 in doubles (a record gap), why commentators from all around the world kept on saying she was surely the best volleyer ever.

What a beautiful era of the WTA... nothing will surpass the match of the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2001... Hinguis vs Serena The Williams sisters were beginning to change tennis with their great strength and physical endurance... that is one of the last matches where you could see that classic tennis that was more technical/mental than power or endurance (although it was a great demonstration of all those qualities) and Martina was one of the best in history... what a pleasure to watch her play... the intelligence and the vision... the technique... thanks to her I started to watch and play tennis 🙌 Then the Williams sisters evolved and there were some years where it was impossible to match them or beat them... only a few could... that made the training and strategies change... therefore the game itself... everything changes

5:06: Aged 17, Hingis wins here her first US OPEN women's doubles title, not 1st women's doubles title. She won many other doubles (and single) titles before, including Slams. If we talk only about Slam titles, she owns the record (like ALL the records of precocity of the History of tennis) of youngest ever to win 1 of them, when she was only 15. But the most interesting thing about this particular point is that it's the point that made her complete the doubles GRAND SLAM, aged 17, youngest ever of course, and she was already single's and doubles' world n°1 (in single since the year before, aged only 16, when she did the Small Slam, winning 3 of the 4 Slam tournaments & she played the 4 finals.

Had a big crush on her back in the day and probably still. She was so adorable and fun to watch. The best player of her day in my opinion she might have had a run like Evert or Navritalova with wooden rackets and healthier ankles. She had some tough competition coming up when her injuries started. Still a Hall of Fame career earned before she was old enough to drink in most US states.

Pretty funny, I didn't remember she won the US open women's title with one of the Chan sisters before to beat the other sister (with who the 1st sis was pairing since many years before she left her sis for Hingis) in the mixed double's final. 🙃😀
