Richard, check the work schedule every day. As a CCA, your schedule changes day to day, even hour to hour because you're not assigned a regular route or have regular set hours. If you're not scheduled to work a particular day, then you're off. You're not "on call," if management tells you so. You have no obligation to answer your phone or answer a text message. And if you're scheduled to start work at 9am and management either calls you and tells you to report at 10am, you start at 9am and get paid from 9am. See your union steward if you have any questions or problems.

But make sure not to answer your phone if you don't want to work. Once they get you on the phone, you have to come in and if you don't, they will put you down as AWOL. We have had CCAs fired over that.

I started my application process back in the beginning of April. I had accepted the job and done all of my drug screenings and submitted the final background check on Friday July 13th . Now I'm just currently waiting for a date for orientation day! I am so thankful for you and these videos! They put my mind at ease somewhat knowing a little of what is going to happen!

C Brown honestly bro I don’t like it at all: they work you like a dog 50-60 hours a week, every Sunday and Saturday and you normally only get one day off during the week if that. I’ve gone 16 days straight before getting a day off. I do not enjoy walking 13 miles a day in 95 degrees. The only benefit is that you get paid very well, but it’s hard to have a life outside of work.

Thanks for the video.. I will not be staying with the USPS unfortunately. I am a full time student, and from what I've seen I already know this job would be too stressful to handle both school and work. Kinda sucks because I'd be getting paid $19 an hour. Oh well, happiness over money. I'll still be doing academy because why not, you get paid for easy work. But after that, I think my short time there will be over. Good luck to anyone that is starting with the USPS, keep your head up. Definitely have a lot more respect for Postal workers. (Not that I didn't already have respect for them)

Now, you'll do three days with an OJI and actually case and deliver mail. It's going to be tough, but just do your best and don't let management get to you. Some advice I give to my CCAs. Keep track of your hours. Management may delete clock rings or alter clock rings to make their reports look good. Read the contract and CCA Rights and Benefits booklet. Management will take full advantage of your 90 working/120 calendar probation period and will fire you for no reason within that period. Join the union and attend branch meetings. Ask questions. Good luck, brother. You have a good attitude and work spirit, so I believe you'll do well.

Also, rotate your walking shoes from day to day. The tiny air bubbles in the shoes get beaten down and it takes a few days for them to spring back. Letting the shoes dry out is also good. Sometimes if my feet are hurting, I change shoes at lunchtime. That always helps my feet.

You EARN your living here. Little is given to you other than the opportunity to serve the general populace. If you're looking for some where to get paid for not working, look else where. Pay is great. Great bennies. Hang in there. Do what's asked of you. Can be very rewarding. Attend all union meetings as you are able. Know the rules, don't accept somebody's opinion. Remember; you're a servant--that's what you get paid for. Good Luck and God Bless.

@Missy D. It's at a different center. You can stay at a hotel and they'll reimburse you back. When you are at the Offer phase, you'll be getting a call or email from the post office detailing the orientation stuff. Be patient it's a long process. But, once in offer phase that's it and congrats on your new job! You will be getting a letter in the mail from USPS HR you got the job and details on the USPS Career Candidate site.

So would window clerk be the easiest job? That’s a PSE position, right
@blue99saturn
@blue99saturn 6 жыл бұрын
It is a PSE position. However, as a PSE, you'll be assigned to come in early and sort packages and small parcels, distribute the third class mail bundles to the carriers' cases, break down the flats and letter mail and DPS and do the afternoon dispatch. Mostly grunt work. The window jobs are generally for the full time and part time career employees.

A PSE position sounds good, but the regular clerks treat them like shit and want them to fail. Most of us carriers support the CCAs because they help take the pressure off us. We don't want to be mandated six days a week, 10-12 hours a day. But it has happened. We were mandated like that for about three months this spring. I just used a sick day whenever I needed it.
