I work here. It's as bad as he says. They took down BOTH APPS machines for no goddamn reason to set up something new, and it's screwed everything up. Btw to those of you asking why we arent doing it by hand, its because there's too much mail, and that would cause even worse delays. We have throughput quotas we have to meet

I live in New England and ship packages for a living but I've stopped sending anything by the post office. Any packages going west of the Mississipi gets shipped by UPS or Fedex. The management of that facility needs to lose their job.

Do you think there's specifically problems with the facilities west of the Mississippi only, or is it more of a "destination is far enough away from me in N.E., sending by FedEx or UPS" calculation?

FedEx handles everything that flies for USPS.

@@exit57 but once it's on the ground (say, at IAH, nearby the North Houston Processing Center or whatsit, no doubt), then USPS trucks take over, presumably. And take the delivery to the center to get lost for a week or so, per multiple people's experience in the past few weeks. So, recommending using FedEx or UPS from point A to point B and no USPS processing centers need be involved (till they get this sorted out).

I've been waiting for a package that was supposed to arrive almost 4 weeks ago and it was stuck "In Transit" to the North Houston Distribution Center for almost a week and a half. I got worried enough that I submitted a service request on the phone to help find it and I actually got a call from my local post office a few days later telling me that it's not lost but it was stuck in "processing" for a little too long. Then just last night I got a tracking update telling me that it just arrived at my local post office and I figured that I would drive there to pick it up myself since I was fed up with all of it. Then I get there and the black lady at the register tells me that it's actually in Missouri City currently in transit to my local post office. As soon as it gets there, Im picking it up as soon as possible. I still don't have it yet but I guess Im lucky enough that my package actually escaped the distribution center. 😅😅😅

Yes, definitely be happy it's out of that specific one. My wife had a package stuck there for many days recently. That said, there are some local press articles that say multiple distribution/processing centers around town are having similar issues, not just this particular one. Though it does sound like it's exceptionally bad at the north center.

The more important one arrived, the less important one got stuck at the same north center for 5 days before finally going out for delivery. Whew!

Why that backlog hasn't been outsourced to other mail sorting facilities in the area or even outside the area is a mystery. Why they just let it pile up higher and higher instead of trying to find a solution is beyond me.

the Missouri City center in the southwest of the Houston area and other centers are apparently having issues as well, though maybe not as bad as the one at the north center. They probably all got ordered the new sorting machines and are having various difficulties getting them up and running in their new homes. Really poor planning on rolling out these machinery upgrades from the sounds of it.

I'm assuming Houston is getting a MARS machine and being repacked as a RPDC. There are only 2 or 3 MARS machines operating in the country so far. North Carolina, Chicago and maybe Indianapolis

KHOU!!! Why not send a few test packages with trackers to see just where they go and how long they sit??!!of course leave off the khou part. They'll start redirecting the mail to other facilities to cut the packages down to 5 digit zip. The facility I'm at has two sorting machine that's idle for a combined 16 hours a day. They can sort 100K packages a day and get it to Houston. Someone has to make the call to get it done.

Crazy how a package can go cross- continent from a sweatshop in China or war-torn Ukraine and then get to Houston and all of the sudden its "lost". If a ticket printer, or computer screen goes out at a restaurant, guess what? The staff work together and put in the tickets by hand. Why is it so hard for the postal service to at least try and act like they care and move those packages out by hand? Even if it is little by little.

Think twice the reason for the mail delay is the postal workers find it better to sit on their backside and get paid to do nothing.. Funny that ups and federal Express don't have delivery delays.. Out of a whole mail truck of mail the postal worker can't deliver one letter to one house.
