I was out of the office for 4 weeks in a row last year...of course I was going through cancer treatment and although I'm here now, and clean, I almost didn't make it. My boss was -incredible-. I'm no longer a carrier...as of right now, I will -never- retire. It would be silly right now for me to give up this job...my boss is on the other side of the state, when I want to hit the road and do some traveling I often time will let my boss know AFTER I've arrived at the station I wanted to visit. It's incredible not being micro-managed, and told, "Be safe." that's it...be safe...

calling out when your not sick or you have to actually take care of a immediate family member is irresponsible.
@MailmanNick13 күн бұрын
I agree
@matthewfusco283517 күн бұрын
Keep in mind you can call off for up to 3 days and it only counts as one call out. Unless im sure I’ll be back in a day i always do 3 days if I have to call out. If i feel better after a day I can always go back early. However, as a disabled vet in my 40s with many health issues I just dont bounce back like i used to so usually need at least 2 days.

If you don’t burn it at the end of your career you are giving away free $$. While you burn it all you are still accruing sick/annual. The last year of your career, have any surgeries you need to have done and then retire. After 30yrs everyone will need to have some type of surgery done.
@williamgonya689317 күн бұрын
Any unused sick leave counts towards your retirement. Like if you have 30 yrs of service and 800 hours of sick leave when you retire then your pension will be based on 31 years of service
@JK-mm4wu16 күн бұрын
@@williamgonya6893 yes, technically your “service time” it is added in but you aren’t getting paid the actual $$. With how upper management treats us carriers like robots and micro manages us, why would you leave free $$ on the table? If I have 29.5 years in and plan on retiring at 30yrs. What is smarter financially…..stop working at 29.5yrs and burn 6 months of sick leave ending in 30yrs of service. or retire at 29.5 years with the same 30yrs of service and not get paid the next 6 months?

Yo Nick just to clarify sick call outs Your first callout can be good for 3 days if you enter it in the online portal The 2nd callout can be good for another 3 days The 3rd callout is also good for another 3 days but then you need a doctors note. Learned this from Jay H

Do not! I repeat DO NOT use all of your leave. It’s important to carry some over because LIFE will happen. Plan your leave accordingly. Best time to take leave is on your long weekend because you don’t have to use it as much.

29 years and counting here. I have roughly 11 months of sick leave saved. Lots of people call in at my office once they get 8 hrs, that is how much they call in. They will learn the hard way when something happens, accident, injury and you can't work. Guess what you are not going to get paid! Save your SL. At worst it bumps you up at retirement or get yourself an operation the last years of service.

In all respect, it’s not really three or more days. It’s after three days that you need to bring in documentation. I suggest to everyone when you do call in sick, call in sick for 24 hours (3 days) because that counts as one incident. If you call in for one day because you’re just not feeling well and think I’ll just call in the next day if I’m still feeling sick, now you have two incidents and God forbid you call in sick for a third time, now you have three incidents. So just call in once for 24 hours and if you want to return the next day, I suggest calling management because they may have filled in a body for your route already and will bitch when you just show up and may also just send you home.

Currently on an indefinite bid. Recently became regular at my office. Nobody bid on a t6 position at another office that we share zip codes with. Based on juniority I got assigned it and I can’t refuse it. Supervisors can’t break my bid but say I can’t refuse the t6 position. Is this true?

Just dont abuse it as a OLD HEAD im now labled lol i will say as im assuming your fan base if you will are quite younger than i am. Just like you said life happens so my story if you will i had a medical situation about 3 years ago i was off for about 15 months the sick leave i saved paid my bills when i was off and most of the other ones as well so the younger ones (if you will) just stay smart esp if you see yourself doing this long term

Attendance policy is a fucking joke. If they went by only 3 call outs per month 3/4 of the employees would be in deep trouble. There were people at my plant last year who were calling out 7-8 times per month every single god damn month and never got into trouble. It's a fucking joke. There is one Gen Z who had 180 callouts last year. That shit bag has been there 4 years and has like 500 total callouts and still has a job.

Hey Nick, anytime you u call in sick, it is an unscheduled day off, a lot of people call, not only postal workers but even in the corporate world, blue collar workers in the outside world, a lot of those people would simply get fired, in my opinion, postal workers should get fired as well, maybe with this new leadership, things will change, get rid of the unions or get rid of all the rif raf people who want to abuse the sick leave and call in sick to go to the night clubs, or bars, that is part of the problem in the USPS, Nick you still got time to convert to a 204-B and working your way up to a permanent EAS position, the truth will eventually come out, about u not wanting to become a 204-B, what will happen to you when your knees go out, something to think about.
