USRA 4-8-2 Mountains

The basic design of the Mountains/Mohawks,was actually developed on the SAR,[South African Railways]! Started out as tank engines,and later,become tender engines! The lines operated on,were heavily graded,and 8-coupled engines were used very early! Thanks,for an excellent video! Thank you 😇 😊!

love the N&W K1's I dont have a scale model of one but I do have a model of a N&W K3 which is interesting considering the fact the secondary and main rods connected on the 3rd drive axle not the 2nd.

4-8-2 is probably the most successful duel purpose locomotive sad that very few are preserved

Hi mrsaturngamingandstories. About a dozen or so 4-8-2's still exist, most built in the 1920's. I don't know if any are USRA originals or copies since I've never looked into it. Thanks for watching!!

I actually have a model of a USRA light 4-8-2. Mine is meant to portray Southern Railway Ts-1 number 1491.

I can't think of steam locomotives as "units" as that term came in with diesels. They were usually called "engines."

Thanks again for the video. One suggestion I want to make is list the "Gate Area" instead of "Firebox Area" or list both. I think you normally have listed "Gate Area" in the past.

Kinda wish the interstate system could've existed alongside the railroads. We are learning the hard way that rail was essential for America.

Hi stephen-ng. I agree. The interstate highway system which gave rise to long haul trucking really undermined the railroads. But....trucks can go where trains can't. Moving mail for the U.S. postal service is what kept passenger rail service in the black. When the U.S. Postal Service took the mail off the trains, it was all down hill from there.

Other countries can have great passenger rail, we can't. That's not going to change.
