USS Bataan (LHD 5) Fueling at Sea

ATLANTIC OCEAN (July 13, 2023) Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) is replenished by the Henry J. Kaiser-class replenishment oiler USNS John Lenthall (T-AO 189) for a fueling at sea evolution during a scheduled deployment. The U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps routinely participate in scheduled deployments to improve combined combat readiness, increase operational capacity, and strengthen relationships among allies and partners throughout the region. I was a plank owner and boatswain mate/ hazmat tech on the big 5 from 96-99. Unreps was a mf and I hated putting them rats guards up 😂

Mannix I don't know what that means. Anyhow my uncle disappeared on the March on Battan ! 😢 I used to have a picture of him. How ever. Somehow it was removed from my viewpoint at a point. He is watching from above his efforts shall not be in vein 🙏 LET'S go to the event shall we? We came alongside a MSC ( Military Sealift Command) ship one time to refuel and while we were all AJ &Squared away, their crew looked like a bunch of has been, burnt out , scrounged out biker guys. But still they got the job done.

USS Bataan is living up to its name.. symbol of gallantry bravery and valor . in WW2_ Filipino and American soldiers fought their last stand against all odds. No mama. no papa. no uncle Sam. 8 mile convoy military supply was diverted to australia. Had it arrived in Bataan on time... Bataan will have have a different story. A good name for a ship for the US Navy

When I was in the Navy in the 60’s we shot a bolo line then attached it to a bigger line and a bigger line.

The ship coming alongside shoots the shot line across. We always told our gunners mates to aim for the guy wearing the yellow helmet, the rig captain.

@@Blap552 you can you tube it a lot of times they will do an unrep (underway replenishment) and a vertrep ( vertical replenishing using a helicopter(s) at the same time. Bringing onboard fuel, supplies, fresh food, mail and everything the ship would need for continuous sailing at sea. I’ve been involved in many of these operations. Joined at 17. 4 yr old kindergartener, graduated at 17 and went right in the navy, retiring at 37. Old man now, been out 24 years. Best time of my life
