My grandfather got this kit for his birthday a few years ago, and he worked on it a little bit until he started going downhill and eventually passed away last year. I want to finish this ship since we built a lot of things together over the years, and he gave me a great headstart on it. I wouldn't want that to go unfinished and undone :)

Well done and perfektly painted. Only the guns where not bronze the where black because of there paint against rust. These armstrong guns are made of cast steel. All the other Details are made with a lot of skil and heartblood. Wish i could build it the same way.
@RJScaleShipsReplicas3 жыл бұрын
Thanknyou very much indeed and your absolutely correct my friend. The colour of the guns however was a simple personal choice more so than an accurate one on this build to give a nice contrast against the ship and decks, but yes in reality they would have been black 😉👍👍👍

@@RJScaleShipsReplicas Your absolutly correct to built and color your Model as you like. On the other hand the old typ cannons made of bronze are in most casses more beautyfull as the simple black ones. 👍 In total it makes you Model very special. Have seen quite a lot of cannons made of bronce, this shimery shine of green to light brown on the Metall is a very warm color kompare to the ode Black. Well done, and please carry on to build an film the next model.

You made a perfekt joke. Had anyone caught it? I use a similar one, wherein I claim to be perfecct. No one has mentioned it, so I assume they thought I had made some obscure comment the meaning of which eluded them. I think one thought I was serious (scoliosis and kyphosis extending from my scapulae up to my face have made a mockery of that!). Great minds, eh? 😄

I've had this kit in the closet for years now, i hope when i finally take the time to build it it comes out half as good as yours. What do if anything do you feel was the most challenging ?
@RJScaleShipsReplicas4 жыл бұрын
Thays fantastic and I'm sure your constitution will exel. The most challenging part for me was making the sails and making sure that they work when untied. If I untie them, that all raise and lower as they should.. that for me was extremely challenging.

@RJScaleShipsReplicas3 жыл бұрын
That's fantastic buddy. Glad your in a position to go for it..unfortunately I never airbrush. All my work in my hand so I can't really comment on the airbrush aspect. By painting by hand I have more control over what I'm doing. It's just my opinion, but if a model is too perfect, it doesn't look realistic. Ships would have imperfections and because I try to make my models look and appear as a realy life ship in a smaller scale I get a much better result by hand, but because I have never used an airbrush I really cannot comment on that I'm afraid. Good luck with the build though buddy. She's a beauty 😉👍👍👍👍

What technique did you use to get that nice wood effect on the deck?

You can check out my Instagram page@rjscaleships for tips and images about that, but a video is being developed buddy so stay tuned for that

Thank you my friend. That means a lot. Unfortunately this lot is as hard to find these days as are heller Victory and Soleil Royal. They are around, but very difficult to find. I sold this one to make room for new projects and regretting it instantly because I cannot find a decent one online anywhere at the moment. You can find her sister ship the USS United states which is almost identical, but the Constitution is very hard to find I'm afraid. I'm also UK based sp I know the trouble we are all having in finding this kit

@RJScaleShipsReplicas3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mario.. firstly don't be afraid of it. The only reason it seems a little daunting st the moment is the unknown, but believe me you are totally capable of producing a beautiful example of the Constitution. The best advice o can give is take your time. Don't put a time stamp on it and literally take your time. The slowly you go the more precise and accurate your work will be.. The hull on my Constitution was done using the Revell Aqua copper. Without a doubt my favourite copper of all time. You can also see this on my HMS Victory build and like you I don't have an airbrush. All of my work on ALL of my models is freehand with a brush and I only work with acrylics... if you have Instagram pop in and say hi. I'm always there and always about if you need any advice. I also have all tje images for all of my builds on Instagram. My page is @rjscaleships Anyway, enjoy it and have fun. That is the most important part of the build.. as long as you enjoy it then the build is already a success 😉👍👍👍👍👍

What a fantastic job you did on this model. I visited the real ship in Boston several years ago... and that inspired me to get Revells 1/96 kit. I have built hundreds of models ever since I was a kid, going on 40 years now... I've built Airplanes, cars, Armor and Modern ships (aircraft carriers-battleships and Queen Mary 1 & 2, and the Titanic) But I HAVE NEVER built a Sailing ship before. Never with all this rigging and Sails. This will be my first and This model brought me to your channel. I am completely blown away by your skill and talent. You definitely have a God given gift for this hobby. I do have one question. On the real USS Constitution The cannons were colored black. I noticed yours is a bronze-goldish color. Can you please explain and clarify your choice of color. Thanks!
@RJScaleShipsReplicas3 жыл бұрын
Hiya my friend. To say I'm not envious in terms of your visit to the real Constitution I'd be lying. What an experience my friend and welcome to the world of model tall ships. The guns on my Constitution where cosmetic only. It gave a nice contrast against the black and wood decks, but in truth most guns on almost all ships were black or at least very tarnish bronze so yes you would be right to go with black my friend. The Constitution was my first real serious build and I'd only built one other model before that which is the black pearl. I've now moved on to the large scale wood ships, but the Constitution is a stunning model and very hard to get hold of these days as well. Good luck with the build mate and if you need any ideas etc have a look at my Instagram page @rjscaleships as most of the images are on there for the Constitution. Anyway, thanks again buddy and good luck with the build 😉👍👍👍👍👍

I would like to build a diorama of the ship in close-quarters battle with a foe. Ideally, one that is historically accurate. The HMS Guerriere comes to mind as an eminently satisfactory example. However, finding a kit of this in the same scale I expect would be improbable. Would you know if any kit maker pro- duces such? I lack the skill to scratch- build one. Alternately, could one credibly mod- ify another kit of the Constitution? This might work if one altered the railings: painted the hull, and the deck fixtures differently; repositioned some features; changed the sails, the yard- arms, the masts, the rigging, etc.; posted different pennants; altered the uniforms and attire, especially their colours, and the like. Toward this, I have several ques- tions: 1) What would serve as a sui- table counterpart in an engagement on the high seas? 2) How would one set the sails? I understand that the crews would have furled the lower set, that they could see to fight. 3) How many crew figures would this entail? I am estimating at least a couple hun- dred per ship. The gun crews would be busily at work, likely sharply increasing this number. 4) How would one represent battle damage? This would entail more than just cutting away some of the hull and bits of the deck fixtures; one must dramatise how the cannonball struck, including collateral damage. I want the enemy vessel to be the worse for it, with one mast fallen diagonally across the deck, its rigging and ratlines entang- ling things. 5) How would one present the crews in fighting? This also would include the dead and wounded, which to be accurate would be grim (to say the least!). The next alternative would be to consider the Barbary Pirates. However, I know even less of that setting. Would any of you lot?
