My grandfather was in the navy for 18 years and did two tours in Vietnam, on the intrepid. He was in crash and rescue and was also a Chief petty officer. I salute all of the men in and out of service.

This is some awesome footage. The aircraft seen from 0:38 to 0:45 is an A-4C (BuNo. 148566) that was flown by LTJG Michael A. Krebs of VA-34. This aircraft was shot down on November 7, 1967, after being hit by a SAM over Thanh Hoa, North Vietnam. LTJG Krebs bailed out over the Gulf of Tonkin and was rescued.

My F4 Phantom squadron went on that "pleasure cruise " from May- Nov of 68, just months before the Top Gun program started in March of 69. I didn't arrive to my squadron until one year later. Just 2 weeks into flying over N. Vietnam, our C.O. was shot down and captured. The RIO was unfortunately Kia. So our C.O. was a P.O.W. until March of 1973!

My father Franklin D. Jordan was on the Intrepid from 1967 to 1968 . He hauled bombs around and loaded the jets . I also remember him bringing up the USS boxer and the USS Mars . If any of you remember him would love to hear from you .

My granddad was a pilot on that ship, he was shot down June 30, 1967. His name was legrande Ogden Cole Jr. if you by chance have any video or pictures of him or his aircraft I would love to see them. By the way, he flew the A-4 Skyhawk, VA-15 squadron

I was working on the flight deck that day. I remember seeing his name painted on the side of his aircraft. A real American Hero.

Garrett, how do I contact you? My dad was on the ship with your grandfather as a pilot in va-15. I have a picture you are looking for.

Sorry Garrett about your Grand dad. I was a plane captain with VA-15 and knew your dad for he flew the A4C I was in care of at times. I'm the one who took these videos you have watched. I was recouperating from a head injury and had the time to record these pictures.I remember him and it was a very sad day we lost him when he never returned back to the carrier. He was a very brave and courageous young fighter pilot and you should be always proud of him for his ultimate sacrifice. I wish I had personal pictures of the pilots but I don't. We lost a few great men out there. Be safe ! Joe Carrera

Lee Cole was listed as Missing in Action (MIA). His remains were returned by the North Vietnamese On November 3rd, 1988 and identified on March 29th, 1989 at which time he was listed as Killed in Action (KIA). He wife, Billie Jo Cole was very active in the POW Wives Organization both locally in Jacksonville and nationally.

that's got to be heart wrenching to do unreps in seas like that, but when a carrier needs fuel, it's gotta get it.
