Those anchors are all that's left of my old ship, the USS Forrestal (CV-59) and have been in service since at least 1952.

For those wondering why they removed the anchor. They needed some cash for an upgrade and listed the anchor on Ebay. I won that auction. The shipping was just atrocious, I feel like they could have done better on the packaging too. But totally worth it to have an anchor of this size as the center of my pond, beside the fountain.

Do all midlife refits remove the anchors? Is the chain and machinery being replaced? That's an impressive amount of work, if so. I'd be interested to know how much that chain has stretched in 30 years?
@roobear78 Жыл бұрын
yes the anchors get removed,no they dont replace the chain its usually very well maintained but it will be checked over for defects and any sections that need to will be replaced.The machinery will be overhauled and parts modernised but not neccecarily replaced depends on condition same as number of other parts of refit they have tolerances and remaining life expectations etc for somethings and straight upgrades for others

@@roobear78 Removing the screws makes total sense. 30 years, they're definitely going to need attention. I hear life on a ship in drydock is a real pain in the ass. I'm glad that's an aspect of Navy life I never experienced.

@@tstahler5420 most of the crew arent aboard its mostly contractors so there isnt much life aboard to speak of as everything is ripped up and out anyway. crew gets the shitty end of refit towards the end cleaning,painting and such

The steel from CVN-65 will be recycled and used to construct CVN-80.[

I work aboard the CVN.73 ive got a question for yall. Is the rumor true on making the CVN.65 Enterprise a museum ? I've heard alot of talk about it, just saw this video pop up so figured id ask
@sharifbarrettjr23103 жыл бұрын
all speculation.. I work in DD1, 4, and pier 5 from what I know the boat is riddled with radiation.
@ampatriotsmith95453 жыл бұрын
They probably can't make the Enterprise into a museum because of the nuclear waste, if I'm explaining it right. It was nuclear powered.

n the spring of 2018, a piece of steel from CVN-65 was melted down and remade into a keel plate for CVN-80.[2]
@tstahler5420 Жыл бұрын
Removing the reactors and associated piping and machinery and then replacing the bulkheads and decking, would be monumentally expensive. The last I heard, (few years ago) CVN-65 will not be a museum ship.
