Is it too much to ask for a military vessel to take permission to come to in you economic zone. I am sure only hostiles may de denied. Unlike China India does not look to control merchant navies the have free pass as per law. China Claims jurisdiction with regard to security, customs, fiscal, health and immigration laws and regulations. Claims the laying of submarine cables and pipelines must be authorized.

Diego Garcia needs to be pushed at UN. The British government evicted thousands of islanders from their homes on Diego Garcia and the surrounding area to make way for the base. The UN's top court recently ruled that the British illegally gained possession of the island in 1965, placing the future status of the base in doubt.

As an American, I really don't understand why the 7th fleet would enter the EEZ, like literally zero reasons. It's not a threat because US leaders wouldn't threaten India because we're dealing with China. Not really. The US has been the dominant power in the Indian Ocean for over half a century with its massive military base in Diego Garcia and they will remain the dominant naval power there for a long time to come. the US has been conducting such operations in the Indian Ocean now for a longgggggg time as they said in their press release and India has been aware of this as well but there is nothing they can do about it. . The only difference is that the US choosed to release this publicly this time. So I don't see the issue here. The thing is the US also sees India as a future possible threat since India itself is too big to fully be a US poodle. So the US still has to keep an eye on India while tackling the bigger threat at the moment that is China. If India ever grows to China's extent then the US will be more willing to take on India more aggressively like they are doing today with China. The thing is India is still too weak for now to pose any sort of strategic threat to US world dominance, so the US is less aggressive towards India but they still keep an eye on you guys.

It is important for us to understand that in foreign policy everything is about 'national self-interest' and as such right now a de facto alignment with US serves our purpose. But we must always remember our end goal to become the world's biggest economy by 2060 in both GDP PPP as well as nominal and to make the entire Indian Ocean Region India's Ocean in the sense of acting as a benevolent great power to win the support and admiration of middle power to walk on the Path of Pandit Nehru of a Great India guided by science, morality and goodwill to build cooperative economic partnerships in the region and to support national reconciliation in countries rather than supporting civil war and coups. The world has seen two extreme sides of the international system: 1. An American way which is hypocritical and believes in only one thing my i.e. my interest are supreme no matter what. 2. The other is the Chinese way which is based on the communist principle that power flows from the barrel of the gun. So on one side there is Capitalist Greed and on the other Maoist Insurgency. Thus, the world desperately needs an India way in which relations between countries is based on respect and cooperation and not arbitrary intervention in internal matters as each society has to chart out it's own course. The India way would be a cooperative, effective and responsible way of managing international relations in which 'The General Will' reflection of individual national 'Real Will', will guide national behaviour towards pursuit of long term collective interest instead of being guided by the short term 'Actual Will' in the pursuit of low short term self interest. Both the the American and the Chinese way are the little and more uglier versions of the 'Actual Will' that is why the world needs an India way guided by the 'General Will' rooted in the principle of 'वसुधेव कुटुंबकम'. India and China have historically been peaceful towards each other and there is no reason that we should have conflict but when one is aggressive and authoritarian in its pursuit of interest, the other is forced to act. History knows india has never invaded or occupied other's territory like what China did in 1962 and again tried in 2020. Just about the whole of the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the English Channel is in the EEZ of one or other of the NATO members. Fact is, under international law Russian ships have every right to navigate non-territorial waters in the EEZ of ANY country. Uncle Sam would just have to suck it up. You can’t insist on every other nation allowing free passage if you’re not going to allow free passage through your zone. Non-Alignment policy was good for its day in the original Cold War, when neither the Soviet Union nor the United States, posed any immediate threat to India's sovereignty. But in today's new Cold War, India needs to be proactive, because this time, the threat to our sovereignty is immediate. India shares a 3,500 km long border with China, which is also disputed at most of places, and both countries also fought a war in 1962, had skirmishes in 1959, 1967 and 2020, and standoffs in 1987, 2013, 2017 and 2020-21. China is still sitting at 38,000 sq km of Indian territory of Aksai Chin, for the past 60 years and still does not recognise Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh as legit parts of India. China is also an "all-weather ally" of Pakistan. Go figure. In the early 1970s, India made the choice to tilt towards the Soviet Union, which also had territorial disputes with China, while China was tilting towards the United States. In the same way, today, 50 years later, India again has made the choice, this time, to tilt towards the United States, which has economic and territorial disputes with China, while Russia is tilting towards China. This tilt need not be permanent, as has been sometimes implied by even the current foreign minister S Jaishankar. But, right now, it is India's national interest to cooperate with the United States to contain the excessive aggression of China in the region. If such cooperation requires some concessions, India should be ready do give them to the United States, for the larger purpose of countering China's overt aggression. This is our moment to "hide our strength and bide our time". In the long run, if India plays passive on such disputes, while silently increasing its own economic and military strength, then in the next 3 to 4 decades, India can attain enough clout so as to fend off both American and Chinese coercions and pressure at least in South Asia and Indian Ocean. That should be India's way going forward. And, fortunately, it does seem like our foreign policy makers are doing just that.
