USS Lexington CV 2 - "Lady Lex"

The USS Lexington (CV-2) was a legendary aircraft carrier of the United States Navy that served during the early years of World War II. Commissioned in 1927, she played a pivotal role in the development of naval aviation, demonstrating the strategic importance of carriers.
Lexington participated in various fleet exercises and operations during the 1930s, showcasing the potential of carrier-based aircraft. Her most significant action took place in the Pacific Theater during the early stages of World War II, notably in the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942. During this battle, she suffered significant damage, but her crew's resolute efforts kept her afloat. Unfortunately, she had to be scuttled to prevent capture by the enemy. My uncle was a gunners mate frist class and he went on to sev on the 2nd Lady Lexington. Yes he severed on both

My grandfather was first loader and survived to join the 4th marine raiders ! He was a sea marine on Lexington since 1936 when he joined at 15 with his dead brothers birth certificate !

My grandfather served on lex from 1936 till the sinking when he joined the 4 th marine raiders ! He was first loader and was one of the marines involved in the ice cream incident ! Hes was still upset about his brand new florshiem wingtips in his locker that went down with the ship 😂
