The USS Enterprise (CV-6) was a renowned Yorktown class aircraft carrier of the United States Navy during World War II. Nicknamed the "Gray Ghost" due to Japanese claims of having sunk her several times, she played a pivotal role in several major battles and campaigns in the Pacific Theater.
Enterprise was one of the first American carriers to respond after the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. It participated in the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo in April 1942 and played a vital role in the Battle of Midway in June 1942, where its aircraft contributed to the destruction of several Japanese carriers.
The Enterprise also took part in the Guadalcanal Campaign, providing air support to American forces during the pivotal Battle of Guadalcanal. The carrier underwent numerous repairs and upgrades during the war and continued to be a vital asset in the Pacific, participating in battles like the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Many classic World War 2 aircraft operated off of her decks, including the SBD Dauntless, TBF Avenger, F4F Wildcat, F6F Hellcat and the SB2C Helldiver.
The USS Enterprise earned 20 battle stars and several Presidential Unit citations for its contributions to the Allied victory in the Pacific, and its actions solidified its place in history as one of the most storied aircraft carriers of World War II.

Of Enterprise's retirement/scrapping, I have heard at least one WWII veteran who served aboard USS Enterprise during the conflict express that he was glad that the "Gray Ghost" did not end up a museum ship. His reason being that he's seen how museum ships (in the U.S.) were typically treated (at least how they were treated in the mid-20th Century,) saying, (paraphrasing in essence,) "I wouldn't want to see kids running around the hangers and other open spaces, hollering, horse-playing, and doing other such disrespectful things aboard a ship that served with distinction, and suffered many casualties during the war."

Wow, yes I guess I have never really thought about it from that perspective. I can see how someone who lost buddies and comrades would view their ship as hollowed ground similar to a cemetery.

How about discussing the management of planes with different carrier classes, and under different scenarios? Some examples would be the launching of an assault force, how CAP fits into the picture, and what classes can launch and retrieve planes simultaneously, if any? Thank you.

Why, Drachinifel used a computer voice for his early videos

@@illinoiscentralrailroadfan6015, yes, he did, but shifted to his own voice due to numerous complaints. But compared to some computer voices, the one this channel uses isn't too bad, though it does get some things wrong, like saying "WWLL" instead of "World War 2". So that's annoying.
