Hey Mayos! I do that with layers. So I will add a clear coat to the skull, then add a layer of paint or stain, then a clear coat, then stain, etc. If you want to see how I do I t I have a video course (its free) on it at this page www.usskullhunter.com/learn-skull-carving

does it matter how old or how the skull was cleaned as how easy or not possible to do tried a cow skull and jawbone had trouble with both i am sure i t is my inexperence but had to ask thanks keep making great videos
@usskullhunter6 жыл бұрын
Yes it can makes things difficult, how would you describe the condition of the bone?
@jeanmyers78336 жыл бұрын
some bone are cleaned with peroxide some i found one in i have is a cow jaw bone left with skin on left out in te weather then boiled to remove skin it is very hard to work with thank you for getting back to me love your videos wirn i could be near as good as you as artist
@usskullhunter6 жыл бұрын
You bet Jean. So different parts of the skull have different densities so yeah actually the jaw bone is actually a lot more dense than other parts of the skull. If the skull has been over boiled, bleached, or is simply just very weathered it can crumble and chip making it hard to carve. With weathered skulls you can usually just lightly sand the skull and then go from there. Brittle skulls can also be stabilized with a resin to strengthen them.
