I still remeber the days when we had disputes and clashes within masjid regarding the Khutbah should be in Arabic or in Native language. Sad part, I was with the people who wanted everything to be in arabic. After the opposition got legal permission to do the Khutbah in native language via court order, one day, we boycotted the Jumah salah when Khateeb started Khutbah in our native language and we prayed Duhur within the Masjid as jamath. Astagfiruallh!!! Feels sad about the days when I was a mere puppet that followed what elders did. Alhamdulillah, Now I am putting my own logical reasoning to the ones that we follow around here.

I think there's something that you should consider: The Sheikh didn't use logic to arrive at his conclusion. He looked at the evidences and the opinion that said that the Khutba can be in other than arabic appeared the closest to the truth in his eyes. ON TOP OF THAT, it logically made sense to follow this opinion because the purpose of the Khutbah is for people to understand and take heed. If you still disagree, take the matter of the Salah for example. Most Muslims don't understand a single thing that they say in Salah, are we therefore going to pray in English or Urdu? No because no scholar ever has said that! Same thing with the Khutbah
@al-zayyadnalado118 Жыл бұрын
Not the same. The salah is clear cut supposed to be arabic without a doubt or confusion because Allah tells us to recite what we know from the Quran in salah. As for khutbah to my knowledge there isnt a clear cut command to only do it in Arabic. Allahu Alaam. @@s.adnansami5106

Some what they do, they make a summary of the khotba in the native language and then when the real khotba starts, its only in arabic. It's important also to push the arabic language, because noadays in america and stuff, they keep surveiling the imams. So better keep it in arabic. For each situation, its remedy. Actually, my friend, if he had said at the time of the futuhat, he would have been correct. The sahaba were a minority, they couldn’t speak the language of the locals nor could the locals speak Arabic. Actually, ibn ‘Abbas had his own translator. It’s also reported in an athar of Umar to stick to the ways of the Arabs. During the futuhat, the sahaba were a minority. Then, locals eventually learned Arabic. As matter of fact, many of the tabi’een and muhadditheen were bilingual having kept their mother language. Imam Bukhari, himself, wrote one Persian (if I remember correct) word in his sahih. Noting the above, it seems that it’s more prudent to assume that the khutbah should be lead in Arabic, as did the sahaba do, the taabi’een, the mutaqaddimeen do, the salafus-saaliheen. After all, it seems that the purpose of a khutba wasn’t necessarily to deliver a message. If so, the sahaba and salaf would have adapted to the language of the native speakers of the lands. No one will die if there’s a translation before or after the khutbah. I hope this message helps readers. Allah knows best.

In India, the main khutba is always in Arabic with explanations in the local language, the second part (sani khutba) is only in Arabic as its mainly duaa. It’s the same in France where I live now. Khutba is preaching to be understood by all the people. If the coran had not been translated in so many languages, we wouldn’t have muslims in all parts of the world with different races & culture. So understanding the message of the coran directly or from the khutba is important. Further, haram is only that which is clearly mentioned in the coran, qualifying other matters or things as haram by people is shirk !

Sadly, this is all wrong. The questioner made a mistake. It is likely that his Ustad was talking about the time AFTER Rasulullah ﷺ Because in the time of Omar and Uthman رضي الله تعالى عنهما There WERE more people who didn’t speak Arabic, Yet the khutbah was still in Arabic. The schools of Fiqh reflect this. This is why many senior scholars deliver a lecture in the local language BEFORE the khutbah, Which covers what the Arabic khutbah will address.
@snipeshot83 Жыл бұрын
Additionally, many scholars hold the “Zikr” that is mentioned is Surah Jumuah to refer to the Khutbah. Hence; it is NOT considered a lecture, But rather a dhikr, classed as a FORM of worship. Forms of worship are not done in our own ways, Acts of WORSHIP are Followed by the example of Rasulullah ﷺ and Sahabah and their followers Neither did Omar, nor Uthman رضي الله تعالى عنهم, none of the Sahabah in the later times had it translated. We can use logic, qiyaas, in other matters, not in these clear scenarios. We don’t read the Quran in salaat in our own language, nor do we say the dhikr in our own languages while prostrating, etc.
