This was a wise, balanced and gentle refutation of the mistaken argument that the Friday Khutbah should be in Arabic only. However, there should always be some Arabic in the Khutbah, so that the people become more and more familiar with Islamic and Quranic words and phrases for they have much deeper meanings than the simple translations. It is sad that the Ummah does not use Arabic as much as it perhaps used to. But insisting that the Khutbah is in Arabic won’t change that. It is now the utmost priority to teach the next generation, who are growing up in non-Arabic speaking, or non-Muslim majority countries, so that they understand their Deen in their own language and gradually develop an interest in learning Quranic Arabic.

Yes, there's no specific ayah or hadith that indicates the juma khutba should be in Arabic but there's also no explicit evidence that the azaan or the salah should also be. There are many counter arguments One sahabi was known do give bayaan before khutbah Secoundly علم سياسة شرعية. Arabic needs to be promoted not discouraged this will open up doors for Jahula. Zikrullah principally and predominantly is in Arabic. Counter to the Need for English is that the modernists have now started to do Salah in English. If people coming only once a week then then Deen should not be downgraded. Next will be the Adhaan. Wonder how that would sound. 🤔

Aah the slippery slope argument. It's a valid argument. So. We have to look at أذان in particular then, right? It was revealed in the dreams of 2 sahaba and so it was important to our Nabi ﷺ that they say the أذان be word for word. And so there's no reason or push to change that. There's a lot of good evidence for it to be in Arabic. The reason there's shouldn't be a switch is because Azan is all about tradition since when the مؤذن shouts it, our towns are now so big, no one hears him. So the whole concept of Azan has become about sticking to tradition even when apps can do the job better in our modern times of huge cities. The khutbah was given in the language of its listeners. Any talented public speaker like our Nabi ﷺ would know to curtail the talk to who the audience is. His khutbas were always short ~10 minutes. Sadly we've left his sunna & tradition in this

Must the Friday Khuṭbah be in Arabic? | Ask Shaykh Yasir Qadhi EP 250 Main Evidence: • Prophet(Pbuh) always gave in Arabic so we must give in Arabic. • It is true that majority of scholars ,said that in cases where even 1 person can speak Arabic it must be given in Arabic. • The Hambali and Maliki even say that if no one can understand Arabic he must read it in Arabic. 2nd Opinion • If everybody doesn’t understand Arabic than it can be given in any other language it is the default position of the Sha’afi school and some of the Hambali scholar 3rd Opinion. • Msutahab to be done in Arabic but not a condition and if the khateeb wants to give it in any other language & this is the alleged position of imam Abu Hanifa. • The person says that he is mis understood. • Lots of ulama has understood from Imam Abu Hanifa. DEFAULT: • Majority of schools that it should be given in Arabic. • How ever is the majority position always the best one to follow. • Reforming an understanding. • Rethinking in these types of issues where there is no explicit command in the Quran and Sunnah. • He(pbuh) did it in Arabic it doesn’t mean it is binding on us because it was his language and the people spoke Arabic. For the majority of our history people understood Arabic. • He never said the Khutbah should remain in Arabic. • To make it binding & to say to a group of people who don’t understand Arabic and they are coming to a masjid one time a week and you give it in Arabic ? Goal of Khutbah • Remembrance is in the language of people. • The Prophet(pbuh) spoke the language of his own people. DR.YASIR QADHI • You want to follow the sunnah, but you also have established 2 khutbahs, in reality you have it in the local language + Arabic. He did not do so. • Authentic Hadith , “No communal activity before the Jum’ah.” • Attention span would be limited, those people instituted something who contradict the sunnah. • Circumstances have changed. • We have 2 extremes in things extreme literalist and some rethink everything and don’t have respect of the tradition. • Did Allah & his messenger said??Did the Scholars said it? • Khutbah of Eid & Jum’ah in lands where people don’t understand Arabic may be given in their local language ,not necessary to be given in Arabic rather it should facilitate learning of Islam, but the Quran should be recited in Arabic only but should be translated. • Similar of the Jordan and Egyptian councils. • I am not aware of any global fiqh council that is anything different from what mentioned.

I’m just curious. Why limit this to the khutbah? Why not give English adhans and salahs as well? There is no specific command or Hadith which requires Arabic for the adhan either? Ataturk actually wanted adhans to be given in Turkish. Seems like Yasir Qadhi and Ataturk are birds of a feather
@nawidafghan943 жыл бұрын
Not giving a Fatwa here my bro but just like you, I’m a layman as well and everybody knows that Atatürk is not a reference in Fiqh of Salah or in any other islamic field 😅 It is a Fardh of Salah to recite Qur‘an. Any translation can never capture the beauty and complexity of the Arabic language and would thus be a mere translation and not Qur‘an. So the prayer would be invalidated by reading translations. And the other Dua‘s in Salah any kid can learn, arab or non-arab. I‘m not an arab and learned those Dua‘s as a child. Same for all my friends and relatives. If there is Ijma on reading Salah in Arabic, which might very well be the case, then that is binding on the whole Ummah. The issue with the Khutbah is a different issue which there is discussion about.
