Hell the main reason the Jazz have been cheap recently is actually to do a rebuild. They decided to cash in on Don's and Gobert's peak value, since the team was basically sputtering in the first rounds of the playoffs and making no progress no matter how they built around the duo.

Welcome to the nhl but just so you know, hes not in any special territory where he can just spend to his whim, the cap had been pretty stagnate for a few years and barely rose, most teams have been making tough decisions to keep their team under that cap and while you have space to sign players you will be in the same boat as every other team, who to keep and who to let go and who to resign and be just under or at the cap allocated. We all spend to the limit and then have players that want a raise when their contracts are due and have to decide who to let go to pay them or who to get when we let them walk because we cant afford it.

Been saying this for the last two season. The Yotes were taking on everyone’s contracts on purpose to get to league minimum. Built up a ton of cap space, draft capital, and picked up a ton of young talent specially as of forwards. It was set so almost all of the contracts would expire this year and they’d still have their young talent and would only have to now get a good defensive core built and a star veteran paid with all the cap they have left over. Recipe to make it to the playoffs and go on a run. As a Yotes fan I’ll be rooting for all the Yotes players I’ve been rooting for for years now, hope to see Utah utilize what the Yotes were doing and it looks like they are. Mark my words they will be a contender if not this year, then next. Cooley, Guenther, Kesselring, Keller, etc. all looked fantastic last season. Gunna be a great team going forward

It perfectly coincided with the 1st Utah rumor, and tanked the season. What they did last year with the D core they had was insane, and with the additions they've made, prospects coming up, an arena to play in, a ravenous new fan base, and most importantly, the relocation monkey off these player backs, I think they will shock the west this year right away.
