Randy, We enjoyed our visit to Canyonlands in 2014 (I have seen your fun 2014 family video, but, it got set private before I could comment in it). This video is also EXCELLENT, and we went on several of these short hikes. MESA ARCH was my favorite. amazing view that I often have my photo as a screen background on my laptop. Definitely one of our better National Parks, and gives you a preview of these rivers before they make it to the Grand Canyon. THANKS FOR TAKING US ALONG ON THE HIKE, . . . Mike

Hey again Randy and crew....Nice that you guys went to Canyonlands N.P. That was one of the spots we went to while travelling...Mesa Arch was beautiful....hard to believe how immense Canyonlands is and the Island in the Sky is only one part of it...there is the Needles and the Maze(you are not allowed in without two vehicles cause a breakdown would be a real hardship) ….Also on the way there is a State Park called Dead Horse Point that is very interesting as well.... We also went to Arches, Bryce, Zion, and Capital Reef....All for now....All the Best......Hank and Pam....

Randy, very nice job of covering what is, in my opinion, one of the good ones in the NPS. I noticed you were in Island in the Sky District this time. Next time you visit, try to allow enough time to get to the 3 remaining units--The Needles, The Maze, and Horseshoe Canyon. Back in the early 90s, I took a 3-day whitewater rafting trip from Moab all the way to Hite Marina at the south end of the park, and was thus one of the very select few to get to The Maze--one of the most isolated places in the country, by hiking up a very steep 100+ ft. cliff to The Dollhouse when we pulled over for a break. Also, nearby are 2 amazing state parks well worth visiting--Dead Horse Point and Goblin Valley, the latter of which being where Tim Allen met the "rock monster" in Galaxy Quest.

Hey Jim, thanks for the kind words and wonderful advice! I have failed to give Canyonlands the attention it truly deserves. Made a note of your suggestions. The rafting trip sure would be incredible!!!
@jimgreen5788
@jimgreen5788 3 жыл бұрын
@@AmericasParks , I just thought of an alternative to actually going all the way to the Maze section. Drive up and around from Moab to Green River, then down past Goblin Valley to a 40+ mile gravel road through Glen Canyon NRA to Hans Flat Ranger Station. You've, by this point, already seen some of the country's most remote terrain. May I also suggest checking out Lake Powell in AZ, where you can rent a motorboat and cruise through the inlets for a few hours--a surprise alternative to hiking for viewers, unless you find an inlet with a place to hike some, of which there are a myriad?

My situation is this, Im the GM for manufacturing company is SoCal. We make Screen doors and ship them nationally. Needless to say it is very seasonal. So when the girls get out of school rather than them spending the summer hiding from the heat in the house and being addicted to their iDevices. I send my wife and girls to her fathers summer house in St. Ignace Mi. Where they spend July escaping the summer heat on the shore of Lake Michigan. I spend 60+ hours a week at work and then come home and quarterback travel plans for them. NPs, hotels campgrounds and routes. I figure since I can’t take time off in the summer they should at least have a decent childhood. Today they were traveling from Kentucky to Michigan so they could be with Family for my youngest 9th birthday on Monday. This morning I got woken up with all call from them. The bent an axel on the pop-up in Bowling Green OH. I had to get them towed, arraigned for repairs, got them a hotel and planned a day trip to Perry’s Victory Memorial. I got them tickets to Cedar Point for Abigail’s birthday. Fortunately I have been blessed with a very strong wife. Thanks for listening. So to answer your question No I have not been to either Park. The girls have been to Voyageurs NP ( make sure you go when they are doing the canoe rides). They have not done Isle Royal. Like I said Isle Royal is hard to get to. If time and money allow I would like to get it done this year but my girls have never camped in a tent one the ground and unless they go all the way around to Grand Portage MN so they could make a day trip of it. I’m not in a big hurry for Isle Royal as they are near it each summer. If it happens this year then great but if the weather is fair then they will probably travel a more southern route back to grandmas in Colorado.
