I often envy of those who can drive on mountain roads with drops and it doesn’t seem to scare them much. I always get nervous for just thinking that I have to drive on new roads. One story dip is enough to freak me out. So, thanks the maker of this channel for bringing these beautiful scenery to my living room.

It terrifies me too lol. One time I was driving down a mountain road in the IE and if the geography wasn't scary enough, other cars would be bombing down next to me at like 80 with the rest of traffic doing the haphazard LA style of flow. I was horrified. 😬

It's not the dip so much as no guard rail 😳

Beautiful drive. The colors just popped. You had good weather on this drive, I only hope it wasn't too hot. The ending along the "Hogsback" was incredible. Going towards the east instead of the west provided stunning views, drop-offs on both sides visible. Thanks for sharing!

Hwy 12 is at the top of my list of most beautiful routes! The last time we drove it was in Feb 2010 shortly after a major snowstorm and the hogback was just spectacular!! Everything was white as far as we could see...and you can see a long ways along there! We were staying at Ruby's and drove as far as Hell's Backbone Road and turned around there to go back. This is so beautiful to see it with all the greenery and the red !!! Thank you for posting!!!

I thought there can't be anything better than this. Now you came up with this. Honestly, it is almost unfair how beautiful your country is. This was one of the most stunning scenery and drive I ever saw. Wonderful video. Please keep them coming. Safe travels to you always. Greetings, Markus.

"Riding" the Hogback with you gives me the grand illusion that I'm flying in a DC-3, if you discount the presence of ground to the sides, and the road underfoot. As that airplane offers a firm, gentle, steady ride, good suspensions and tires can only add to this sensation. I don't see why some folks could get skittish about this road; perhaps they'd be more comfortable on congested city streets? Thanks, "AED", you've just scored another hit!
@AdventureEveryDay2 ай бұрын
That’s a great analogy! I get that a lot of people get nervous on stretches of road with steep drop offs, I’ve never personally had an issue with them and love going to the edge of a cliff in a place like Canyonlands National Park and looking straight down 1,000 feet.
@swithinbarclay47972 ай бұрын
@@AdventureEveryDay A road that you've shown us plenty of times and one that I've also been on plenty, too, is the Big Oak Flat Connector (between the 120 in the High Country to the 140 & 41 covering The Valley) in Yosemite between Crane Flat and the Valley. Rounding the big bend past the Foresta Cutoff you start to get that same sensation, that same illusion. And it helps that the forest does not close in thickly on either side of that road. For that reason, you do not get that, on the 41 immediately after the tunnel on your descent. Many big trees close in on you, all the way to The Valley. They're just too thick. Oh, I'd just thought of another stretch, of the 120 well East of Tioga Pass. You've just passed Ellery Lake, rounding that big bend under the shadow of the Dana massif, and, lo, everything drops out from beneath you as you begin your descent down Lee Vining Canyon, and doesn't stop until you're on the floor of Lee Vining Meadows. Say, Colorado has TONS of roads like that, with U.S. 550 being a PRIME example-- the $1,000,000.00 HighwaySan Juan Skyway--either way! Maybe New Hampshire, too, descending from Franconia to Campton, where the "Old Man of The Mountain" used to be? Tennesse, the Carolinas, West Virginia?

I needed this. Trying to decide on a route to the north rim of the grand canyon in 2026 and was going to go through monument valley ... but especially if there are any similar features on this drive, I'm considering it as it goes through/near grand staircase. I'm going to take this virtual drive!
@AdventureEveryDay2 ай бұрын
Scenic Byway 12 runs from Capitol Reef through Dixie National Forest and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument to Bryce Canyon, so there’s certainly plenty to see. Plus at the west end of the road you’re not terribly far from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon either.

The general rule in UT is to never exceed 5 mph of the posted speed on any road, including the Interstate (Motorway). Posted speeds on the Interstate are generally 80 mph (130 kmh) or 70 mph (120) in cities. Rural highways and roads range 40-65 mph (70-110).
