Hi Lizzy. Weight pull is a canine sport. It gives the dog an outlet for excess energy and gives them a physical and mental challenge. The training that the dogs go through also provides one-on-one time for the dog and handler to bond and enjoy each other. Dogs that do competitive weight pull can also earn titles and the best go to championships.

Dogs wag their tail for more reasons other than happiness. And in this video their tails are just flailing and not wagging, almost like the tails are shaking. When I life too heavy my hands will start shaking and that is absolutely how I interpret these dogs body language. Fucking ridiculous. Only people that practise this kind of abuse will condone this. And let's be real here, the owner make their dogs do this so that their dogs will hopefully win their owners a nice big cash price and not for their dog's happiness or wellbeing.

It bothers me that people are calling this abuse. First, it's not like it's 5000 lbs of dead weight, and it's much easier to pull once they have their momentum going. This is a great energy outlet for dogs that are physically able to do this, and if the dog didn't like it, they wouldn't be doing it. Owners aren't going to push their dogs past their limits, and both the owner and the dog knows its limit.

@miguksimin10 жыл бұрын
Yeap, you got the right point here. The dog is actually not pulling 5000 pounds, but still incredible though.
@EGGINFOOLS10 жыл бұрын
Its the weight that they use as the description because its the variable in the test that can be controlled easily. The friction coefficient of the surface would be a lot harder to measure and control for a test like this. It would be the static force used to move the object in a true test which would be even harder to control. Once an object is moving it becomes "lighter"essentially because the momentum is now there. So it doesn't matter if its on wheels or dirt. What matters is the measurement of the controlled variable in the test.
@Swell_Character10 жыл бұрын
EGGINFOOLS Pretty amazing stuff, though, don't you think? You don't see many other (if any) kinds of dogs doing this besides bulldogs. A great sport for great dogs. Bully/Bulldog breeds like APBTs are great dogs and sports like this are great for them. People like those that are against this completely legal and legit sport for some reason are clueless and need to get more educated. Such people just don't get these hardy working dogs and the jobs/activities they take part in, are tested by, and are bred to be able to do like weight pulling, big game (deer, wild pig, bear, etc.) hunting, and springpole. I mean..what are those people against weight pulling talking about? This is good. It's exercise. It's an outlet to burn all of that energy they have. It is also a way to test and showcase the qualities and abilities of these dogs safely and legally. This is what Bully/Bulldog breeds like the APBT are all about. They live for physical activity, challenge, competition, testing their strength, charging ahead, and pleasing their owners. It's because they are such hardy working dogs. They actually LOVE doing this. They wouldn't be out their doing this and doing it so well if they didn't. These dogs love to pull. They do it all the time. When they are taken out for walks..many of them pull and charge ahead. And these people here have the appropriate gear for the dogs so that the dogs can pull safely and comfortably so there should be no concerns at all. These people understand their dogs and care about their dogs greatly.

I don't think they can, usually...The dogs probably only weigh 80 pounds and the humans aren't just dead weight like the bricks on wheels. I think maybe you weren't being totally serious but I am responding anyway :) people often say my dog is too big for me (I'm a girl), but she can't pull me around even though she's stronger than I am. I'm sure she could pull a thousand pounds of bricks, but I don't weigh that much, and she can't pull me! She has lunged on leash many times since we got her from the shelter a year ago (less and less often), but she can't get away, even when she sees a squirrel. She's an 84lb pit beast. So anyway I don't think it's unsafe to strength train dogs like that if you can control them. You also probably wouldn't take them on walks using a hauling harness, so they wouldn't be able to pull you like they pull the weights.

If you check out their body language, especially the brown one, his tail is up, but not rigid, his ears aren't back (in fear or submission) or alert/forward (nervous, aggressive, anxious, etc). They seemed to be really enjoying themselves. I'd ask a body builder about what it feels like with really heavy weights. Our psychology is different, but the feeling should be similar enough.
@1MuffinThief9 жыл бұрын
Yes this dog is not showing signs of aggressive behavior. Most people that don't know body signs would start yelling at you and probably call the cops. That's why people need to be educated about these breeds. :)

Weight pull is actually one of the SAFEST dog sports. According to one weight pull organization, "Since IWPA's organization in 1984, no dogs have been hurt in competition."

Weight doesn't really mean much. It takes less force to pull 5000 pounds on wheels than it does in solid ground.

Are you...Albert Einstein?!
@vtothet1210 жыл бұрын
so the force it takes to pull 2lbs on wheels is not much less than the force needed to pull 5000lbs on wheels? because y'know "weight doesn't really mean much"
@MrNojam4u10 жыл бұрын
weight doesn't mean much when pulling the same amount of weight on two totally different mediums* sorry your tiny brain needed the elaboration.
@vtothet1210 жыл бұрын
James Van Metre lol weight is still half of the equation, regardless of the situation, it doesnt matter if you have a 99% efficient system, weight is still a great factor. if you call someone to tow a load for you do you think they will ask for weight?
@MrNojam4u10 жыл бұрын
Dude weight doesn't matter nearly as much as friction though. You can have a frictionless surface and pull a ton no problem. Try to pull a ton over high grit sandpaper and you're gonna have a hell of a time.

people be in the comments like "the dog loves it! its being its natural self!!" I'm sorry, did you hear the dog say "yea man I love what I do"?? or do u go outside and see a dog pulling a 5,000 pound cart of bricks down the road?? um I think not.
@BarefeetB6 жыл бұрын
Brittany Cryar I can tell by you're comment that you really don't know much about "working" dogs ? The apbt is a working dog through and through They are used by the police , and as bomb / narcotics dogs , search and rescue , service dogs , on cattle stations , agility sports , hunting dogs etc etc ... what makes them such good working dogs is they love it ! They need to be mentally and physically Stimulated that's what makes them happy. It's a bit like having two totally different humans For example my stress relief after work is to go for a nice long hard run along the beach , that stimulates me in both ways Now my girlfriend likes to come home , pour a wine and relax on the couch and is quite content doing that Now if I was forced to do that every day I would go nuts just like my pitbull would ! So it's probably worth keeping you're un educated sarcastic comments to you're self in the future !!!

Chicaomillionz Martin Not for strength. For scent and intelligence. Strength isn't the deciding factor of why they choose them. Shepards are good loyal dogs usually to ONE owner or person. They are good with families but tend to follow one person. Which is why they are paired with ONE person on the force.

I guess your car/truck isn't a true weight either then. This dog will pull any car or truck on the road...besides an H2/bus/18 wheeler. GET REAL and appreciate the determination, power, and discipline of these dogs. And to do it with the surface area of their paws which is at best 1/3 of your feet...jeeze does your life suck that bad that you can't see ANY positive in this video. Must be a hermit crab owner.
@InfinityBlaze9999 жыл бұрын
+Paige Beiler It's still 5000 pounds. The only thing that changes when put on wheels is the coefficient of static and kinetic friction.
@InfinityBlaze9999 жыл бұрын
+Jake Stage the dog is CERTAINLY able to pull 5000 pounds. I can see where it is questionable to think that a dog can move this much weight, but the wheels do a tremendous job in helping the dog move the it.

5,000 lbs is 2 1/2 tons. Not only do I doubt those wheels could handle that weight, but the ability of the dogs to pull that much. If they can then that's amazing.

This is a great sporting/working dog competition, At age 12-16 I was training my pit and working with my dad doing training exercising with our dogs, and attending these shows. Those times are some of the best memories I ever had in my childhood and our dogs loved it more than anything in the world. Certain kinds of dogs classified as Hunting/Working/sporting dogs require this kind of exercise, competition, and the feeling of accomplishing more than your average poodle. If my dog didn't want to do it she wouldn't do it, but we always got the hecklers with their ignorant comments talking about abuse, it is more abusive to force a sporting dog into a life where they cannot utilize their skills
@Swell_Character10 жыл бұрын
This is what true working bulldogs are. They are powerful working dogs. The APBT is the original working and bull baiting bulldog of England. It was bred to be a powerful and agile all-around farm dog. This is not a fighting breed. Some people use them for fighting, but they were bred to work. I am just grateful that the majority of people realize this, and that their are more working, hunting, and weight pulling strains of bulldogs than bulldogs used for fighting.
