@@barrelracingtraininghelp well, I don’t even know what a star is. In the context of barrel racing. I am learning. I currently have a horse that has been taught reigning cues. But what I have learned from watching your videos and others is the barrel racing horses take cues from the leg. I think this would be a great fit for me. I downhill skied and raced my whole life, so I have a really strong mind-body connection to my legs, but struggle with the subtle cues of a reigning horse. Besides that, my whole life I have thought barrel racing looks like a ton of fun, but I’ve never had the opportunity to try it. So I’m learning. I would absolutely attend a clinic anywhere in the western states. ♥️

So when me and my horse are at a barrel race I can’t be in the large groups with him because he doesn’t just stand there if we stay in one place he walks forward and then back up when I walk in forward again he backs up and keeps doing that and then when I go and try to walk off and go warm up he acts like he’s gonna walk forward and then back up he has backed up into other peoples horse and I don’t him or other horses getting hurt he also does this thing where he puts his head down grabs the bit and puts it down and when I try to pull him up he won’t lift his head and I have to be kind of harsh but I don’t want to be but I have no idea how to fix it ?
@barrelracingtraininghelp
@barrelracingtraininghelp 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t be to focused on that. It’s pretty typical for a barrel horse to not want to stand around with lots of other horses. I would just stay out away from everyone till you make your run and then make the run and don’t stand in there and wait around. Sometimes the horse just gets a little anxiety and doesn’t want to be around other horses before and run and that’s totally fine as long as they go make a good run
@heidikline5940
@heidikline5940 3 жыл бұрын
My horse does the same thing… when your horse puts their head down and won’t pull it up, kick them forward and pull the reins up. As for the standing around do circles. Just some easy circles nothing super harsh but gives them something to do in a quiet fashion

He is spirited but will stop easily and I have somewhat soft hands and don't jerk my hands around. I am going to barrel race him so I need to figure out what bit to use. I heard that I should not use Tom Thumb bits but should I use a snaffle or something else??? Please help me. By the way i love your videos!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi I'm a new fan of your channel, i have a few questions for barrel racing, I'm just starting out and I've never been to a show but I'm going to join a club and do shows next year. Question one: How do i gain confidence? I have trouble finding my confidence and my strength. Question two: I'm scared of heights, how do i overcome my fear? I'm starting barrel racing lessons soon and I'm going to ride a 20yo horse. My instructor told me after a few lessons i need to lease a more fit and stocky horse later on c: question three: How do i make my body tell the horse what to do?

What if the horse won’t respond to body or leg pressure ? I’m curious about this one bc I am working on a horse that won’t move no matter what the owner won’t let me do ground work with it so that don’t help but if u kick or anything it BUCKS !! I saw ur vid in bucking and it said lunging and stuff so I’m not alowed to do that
@barrelracingtraininghelp
@barrelracingtraininghelp 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t know what to tell you if they won’t let you lunge the horse. Ground work is the key. If your horse won’t behave in the saddle you have to go back to the basics

what about a green broke pony who just jogs faster when asked for speed and can't get him to lope under saddle. if I could get him to lope it be easier to sit. hard to sit when he just starts hard pacing when asked for speed. he is a hackney mix; he can lope lunging but doesn't understand ridden.

When doing drills you choose a distance around the barrel. When choosing 5ft, you stay 5ft around the whole circle. You're bleeding off and your horses back end is not moving consistently with the rest of his body.
