Yeah but he has to say that lol. Him saying he wants to stay in Utah, made the fans go crazy because no one wants to stay with the jazz 😂 He knew that the jazz were going to give him the absolute max contract that can be offered, immediately. Whereas, if he went to a team trying to contend in the playoffs, there's a more probable scenario where the team would have asked him to delay his negotiation, to help the team win now( with his friendly 18m deal). He's smart. Gets his bag, plays a season or 2, and while the jazz are still trying to rebuild or figure something out, he can easily request to be traded to an actual contender.

Lauri sacrified his chances to win something for some time to come, now there is nothing but tanking to expect. On the other scale there were the family issues, SLC seemed to fit for kids etc. Kind of admire that attitude, being a father/husband first and a basket player second. Hope still that he gets to move to some other place later on, to win rings.
@juhawallden86303 ай бұрын
No. He is going to quietly, relentlessly lead from the front in an Alexander Barkov -style, until the Jazz grows into a contender. He doesn't need to leave to find a championship team. The team will come to him. "Can't, beacuse it's Utah?" Go ask "all the six Panthers- fans" in Florida.

Lauri's responses at 4:59 and 6:17 wouldn't give me the strongest confidence that he is staying long term.
@magicofshootingstar3 ай бұрын
@tom4life2001 How about from 1:58 that was about him hoping to not go through a trade again? 😃 Those responses you pointed out sounded more to me that a) he didn't want to set himself up to disappointment if front office trades him later b) that conversations with front office are fresh in his mind after signing the extension and that they have been honest with him in the fact that you never know what happens in rebuild. But all that is of course just my read 🤷♀️
@tom4life20013 ай бұрын
@@magicofshootingstar Yeah, it could be an emotional defense mechanism. I know how difficult the CLE trade was for him. IMO, I think the Jazz timeline and his timeline are too far off to rectify moving forward. This contract was more about Lauri securing the bag. Lauri wants to win and has currently played the most games amongst active players without playing in the playoffs. Even if the Jazz get Cooper Flagg this year, they are still a couple years away in that scenario. There is a reason why Danny Ainge broadcast via Woj that Markkanen was possibly available. I think Danny Ainge wanted intel and idea of Lauri's market AS A UPCOMING FREE AGENT so he can then ask for more when Lauri is on a long-term contract. Maybe I am wrong but that is my read of the overall situation.
@magicofshootingstar3 ай бұрын
@tom4life2001 I can totally understand what you are saying. Since Lauri has been talking about him seeing more value of growing bad team to mountaintop instead of joining already good team, I still hope you are incorrect and front office brings in some guys that can help. If not now, if they want to tank/grow young guys, then maybe next offseason. Then Lauri can be on "right timeline" and they can finally start to get reps in post season while still growing as a team. I think part of the equation was also the fact that Ainge&Zanik have both said that kids can't raise each other, they need quality vets in the locker room. I have understood that might be part of why they paid Eubanks what they paid too. It's also true that if you only have good young guys on the team and everyone are same age then you will have difficulties when all of them need big contracts at the same time. That's why it's beneficial to have different aged players on the team. Oh, I also don't know if "Lauri is available" message came originally from Ainge or from the other teams since I think Ainge is pretty tight lipped usually while trying to make a trade and then only afterwards speaks about it. (Like Donovan to Cleveland) But I do agree that he got information of both Lauris value and value of other players to their own team by having those conversations 😃
