UTENA therefore you and me

Basically I went on a crazy Utena kick after my video essay on my other channel @ noralities
and couldn't live until this was out of my system. I somehow made this in about a week, and was able to reuse some anthy frames from my essay.
The last utena animatic I did was more 50/50 split on anthy/utenas perspective but this one is almost entirely from anthys viewpoint. I think I've improved a lot since then, I've certainly gotten faster at animating.
I've always loved this song and knew I wanted to do an animatic for it, but never new what series or character to do with it until BAM

Touga and Saionji... I am so obsessed with their particular brand of homoeroticism because it's like, they're so tied to each other and they have such incredible emotions but they also have to perform their masculine dominance and desire for/about girls and women, and like.... ugh the particular bisexuality that Touga and Saionji have, it's just... incredible. I love that fluid time in our lives where things weren't so defined and it's all so strange and weird and nebulous without needing distinction.

Utena's content is always appreciated~ I can't believe how good this is. All those references go so well with the lyrics and your art is so cute but with some "realistic" feeling because of their bodies. I got very emotional watching this. I think this is my favorite version of Therefore You and I. I specially liked the part about avatars and the "as a result of not noticing", or the 1:21 part... What am I even saying, I loved every single second of it. Every time I watch it and notice something new, I fall even more in love with this~ Keep up the good work!

This reply is about half a year late, I know, but it’s from the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena! Most people know it for being gay (which it is) but it also deals heavily with themes of abuse and overcoming trauma, so I’d say you might want to look up trigger warnings before going in. Definitely a masterful show, though. 100% recommend.
