I've heard a saying; "the world's greatest swordsman doesn't fear the second best, he fears the worst because he has no idea what the idiot will do" which kind of crystallizes these things. The opponent is already well prepared for anything smart so doing something slightly stupid is going to throw them off balance and give you the edge.

Eh.. that's not really true though. I mean, if you've watched him play vs. Serral for instance, Serral absolutely destroys him when he tries goofy builds and it isn't even close. This isn't a case of catching players better than he is off guard and beating them because of an unconventional strategy - this is beating players that are way way worse than he is in spite of using a weak strategy, and he would've had a much easier time beating them if he had played standard.
@KaitlynBurnellMath2 ай бұрын
@@asdfqwerty14587 I mean, he did beat harstem in one of these games, and harstem is around the same level as uThermal. So I definitely think he is beating some players at roughly his level. The thing he doesn't show is his winrate with these strategies. If the strategy has a 33% winrate, it's just not a strategy that you would ever take to a tournament. And it wouldn't surprise me if some of these builds were lower than 33%.
@DanaOtkenАй бұрын
@@KaitlynBurnellMath That is the trick: this is about putting entertainment first. Which also explains the saying about swordsmen came about: we don't focus on the fifty idiots who got killed immediately because we don't want to be either any of them OR the fifty-first idiot who got lucky and then promptly got killed when all the challengers started heading their way.

Challenge idea: Contamination Focus on making mass Overseers to Contaminate your opponent. Supplement with other zerg units for defence and support for the Overseers. Utilize the fact Overseers are free of supply and you can have whole carpet of them. In the spirit of "contamination", consider spreading Creep in your opponent's base and potential expansion areas (eg using Overlords, Queen drops, etc) Contaminate sounds like a fun ability that have huge potential if done ad nauseam, but I've seen it being used perhaps only once or twice...
