Learning more about the t2 stage is perhaps easier in team games, but in general it's best to upgrade some of your economy before you start producing t2 units. Advanced mexes product 4x the metal of a basic mex, which is how in the second game your opp managed to keep up the bull production despite having less map control. Striking the balance between eco and army production comes with experience but it's a joy to see how fast you're picking it up in real time! Also, as a BAR composer, it means a lot to hear your appreciation for the music ❤ -Leon

Before I even watch the video I just gotta say, please don't feel pressured into defaulting to a zoomed out map. Watching you playing BAR zoomed in SC2 style is such a unique and fun experience, and I'd be bummed to see that change.

Yeah, my opinion aswell, an unique way of playing BaR. My only tip/frustration ^^ , game wise, he needs more Build Power, one construction tower. But that is the major difference with other RTS's "build power".

You really should expand more. BAR is not like starcraft, the resources are all over the place intead of concentrated at each mineral lines, and it takes forever to scout the map and launch an attack. Plus the money you spend on an epansion that gets killed is a lot less compared to SC2. You can just spam metal extractor all over and only start building turrets on the further expos after you get a decent amount of income. Excluding when the constructor also gets killed, it takes something like 20~30 seconds for a metal extractor to pay for itself, so risky expansions don't really risk that much.

naked expand is a two-handed sword and a balancing act. When someone rushes you with ticks you will regret not investing in 1 LLT at a 3mex :P

Expand like you are zerg on the largest map you know of, and you're probably still not expanding fast enough. Sure you do need weapons soon, but it's probably viable to start with a construction unit.

Depending on the map size, con start can be the best build order, but if its a smaller map, you'll want to be careful with that because ticks and rovers are very fast and will cross the map before you have any defenses or units up and can do a lot of early damage. So usually it's good to build at least 2 units first, especially just a few ticks before the first con, to have some vision and basic defense in case the opponent also rushes some ticks or rovers. The loss of taking early damage is worse than the slight eco slowdown from building a few scouting units first.

If you ever see full metal and energy and not certain what to do next, always default to just "build metal storage with commander" helped me out a lot. Although, your idea of "build solar" is the next best option too.

@@atlasfailedatlas1557 Well the better move is still going to space troops out, it's going to be a concave line in front of the commander rather than a convex in back of it. That way your troops (a) spread out and (b) surround in a sensible way. Now if this wasn't a really important moment, and we're talking about 1 second of micro time in an unimportant battle, then sure what he did is perfectly fine. Because the disadvantage of the concave-in-front-of-commander is your troops will stop moving and so if the enemy commander moves away (while you're not watching) then he just escapes. But if you have 5+ secs to sit there micromanaging, then concave is the right choice.

Playtip: When starting the base -> Create mexes then a single solar first then create lab and while creating the lab create a new solar and switch between the lab and the solar to maximize your Energy usage. I'm not a pro, I'm not telling you what to do, but this something I personally do. Keep creating great content! groetjes ;)

19:35 I think its more of their aim speed is really low. they can shoot sideways, but they move past something faster than their turret can turn, so they're more likely to shoot ahead or behind.

you need to send your commander out soon on this map and take a quarter or half front with llts while you get bare mexes behind that and have main army middle, you need to scale build power more, for example at 4:50 you needed 1 con turret on base, for more power use commander to make solar on the way to the front (never have commander idle early game, always have long queue on him, you want him to push your main front as he is op unit early game), and have 1 dedicated con at base constantly pumping out solars until you have 500-600 energy at least, then it depends if you go T2 but usually for 1v1 you would go for second T1 air or vehicles around 11-12 minutes

Iirc i used your wrecks to go t2 and immediately did go for t2 con to close the economical gap. I guess during the transition u might have had 3x the income from mexes.

Im not sure what you mean. Youre both spawned inside a bounding box wherein the specific spot is your choice. Both boxes should, in theory, be similar and fair to one another.

If you're low on metal you can reclaim more of the stuff you've build, especially regualr solars, advanced solars are a lot more efficient and t2 stuff is more efficient aswell

uThermal clearly has way more map awareness than most BAR players even with SC2 level zoom. We just have to wait until he focuses more on figuring out the macro which is massively different from SC2. Probably shouldn't be floating 1.6k metal at 5:55 or 1.9k metal at 22:40. I suspect he just needs to build more construction bots and a nano earlier and to always be building out his energy economy (which is trivial since BAR lets you queue things without resources) but I'm sure actual BAR players are already backseating this kind of advice to him already.

Lol dude. Ye ol rush the com. Playing 1v1 is better to gain OS. But team games will give you perspective and dynamic. You were wasting metal=con Turrets should have been out earlier. Or advanced solars. Remember a solar collector is essentially a power generating metal storage. U reclaim it for full value as you use that to scale ur eco to larger production centers. 2x T1 converters = 1 mex. So not taking advantage of that early is silly. E storage is there for heavier requirements but not necessary when ur running on solar. Again the con Turrets can eliminate that need for storage. SHOULD rather. Ur com is a turret so to speak so plant an LLT on the opposite side of the direction u choose to move ur com out. Also ur radar placement was behind a mountain. It cut half the scope out. I use camera anchors too. Usually bind f1 to main overview. F2 to base. F3 to first point of contact or front line and f4 enemy's base or dynamic. Well done though. I like ur casts. -Half_Robot

I think once you learn more about the macro you will get very good at BAR. The eco management is soo important. You should try some 3v3 or 4v4 so you have a little less army pressure and more time to figure out eco mechanics and timings

Very nice games. On the second one you seem to started super well but didn't scale well in the t2 era. Didn't upgrade your Mex and took long for advanced solar. Needed a couple advanced constructors... Also so much wasted metal and energy, you could have gotten to T2 far before him.... but yea, who am I to talk, it's different when playing and the reality is I suck. I recommend watching some Brightworks casted games... we learn a lot from it and since you are a pro gamer... would make you far better seeing how the Pros in BAR scale.

I'm surprised drops of long-range units weren't used in the early/mid game in response to lots of T1 turrets. Long-range units are painfully slow, but once the opponent has made massive investments in static defenses, it seems safe to get air production online to drop artillery/rocket units out of turret range and blast the extractors, or even the turrets themselves.

It is just very very expensive. If the enemy goes heavy into porc, it makes far more sense to transition to vehicles, which can easily just run over porc. Brute/stout smashes LLT's through brute force, and then you can repair them for free. but stouts are also just good at brawling, defending, and raiding, which air transports are not good at. The T1 vehicle transition is quite common in 1v1, because generally speaking, vehicles just outmaneuver bots while being able to engage many of the faster bots efficiently in combat. Really, in this game, porc just isn't that scary. Uthermal doesn't have a proper unit comp yet (you need scouts for stouts as they can't see as far as they can shoot, and pawns can't know they are blundering into LLT's without tick support as they don't have the sight range to match light laser tower attack range). This is why he is taking losses, really, because he is just building pure pawn/stout, with no ticks or rovers mixed in, which he 100% should be doing. It would cost him basically nothing just to have his comp be like 10-20% tick, by build queue. Also, he doesn't have forward radar, which would also immediately warn you "hey, you are walking into half a dozen enemy units with your pure pawn army here, maybe don't do that". Also, long range units AREN'T painfully slow. The rocket bot is the standard counter to this type of porc in 8v8 (light laser towers) and it is over 50 speed, which is a lot better than the commander and better than thug/mace and centurions. It's WHY thugs lose to rocket bots, because they can just retreat forever due to their fast movement speed. You can have rocket bots knocking over light laser towers way before it's practical to air transition.
