Wdym? Are there any other RTSes? Are those in the room with us right now?
@evernewb2073Ай бұрын
@@pabdavinchi kinda? there's a whole genre of games calling themselves RTSs (real-time-strategy) but the vast majority of them would more properly be called RTTs (real-time-tactics). don't get me wrong there is legitimate strategy in something like, say, Starcraft but the lowest level of stuff you could call strategic thinking in that game is stuff like looking at the metagame when deciding ho to play a matchup on a map, more properly it would be anything related to deciding how you are going to go about playing the game long-term, stuff like looking back over your replays to figure out how to train yourself to make tactical calls as snap decisions better and deciding what parts of your skillset you want to work on. really _any_ game where deciding what parts of your skillset you are going to work on because perfect play is impossible is going to have a real strategic level to it but that applies to counterstrike just as much as it does to Starcraft...huh, now that's a funny thought: Tarkov and some similar games actually have you making strategic decisions during gameplay and/or making gameplay decisions off of strategic level concerns quite often.

First 30s: Calling the bot lab 'barracks'. You can take the man out of StarCraft, but you can't take StarCraft out of the man. Good to see you play more of this type of RTS.

Love the BAR content uThermal, keep at it seeing a road to rank 1 would be awesome! Also keep aggressively expanding the metal extractors on the map, even if you only control it for 25 ~ ish seconds before its taken out it will have paid for itself and any time beyond that is more resources to pump into your production. Keep it up!

There's a guy who goes by @BarcastTV who's done a lot for the 1v1 BAR community. He's organized or at least been involved with every "major" 1v1 tournament in BAR over the past few years. He has great videos for learning the game critically, and even has occasional podcasts with top players doing replay analyses and whatnot.

Whether it's better to send your commander forward early or keep them at home boosting production mainly depends on the structure of the map. The popular 8v8 maps give most players their own lanes, so it's as if you're playing on a long narrow map. So in 8v8s if you're front line you generally want to send your commander forward very early to claim territory. Most 1v1 maps, on the other hand, tend to be open and encourage you to expand in many directions at once. So in 1v1s you generally want to keep your commander at home.

Ahhh! I'm getting my wish to see you play more BAR, so I absolutely have to engage with the video. 1v1 on a big map gives a huge advantage to high-apm players, since all you need is to sneak a few low-level units around a corner and snipe the economy take an overwhelming lead. Thus the vast majority of 1v1 never get out of t1 and end in a commander snipe or a resignation after the economy tilts too far. A major reason why multiplayer team matches are so popular is that multiple players fill up the lanes of attack and reduce the APM pressure of defending the economy, allowing games to go longer. Since you have the hotkeys and camera controls down and pro rts APM, you are liable to clean up in 1v1 matches even before learning what all the units do. I'm here for it, I can't wait to see what you can pull off once you have more than the vaguest imaginable familiarity with the units!

IMO the early game macro really is a knife edge between aggression and expansion, and it's the first cliff on the learning curve. If you fell behind early, you won't see the consequences for another 5 or 10 minutes, then you find out suddenly just how big the opponent's army is, and then it's too late to adjust. I'd recommend watching the replay on matches like that last one and track the metal/energy stats (and number of engineers) your opponent made as the game progressed, that'll probably teach you much more than us zealous commenters will :D

Actually been playing some 8v8 thanks to your highlight on the game, huge mess and much fun some useful shortcuts for fatcory control: - repeat switch (T key) makes your factory produce units indefinitely (by respecting the ratio of queued units) - alt+click let's you put a unit in front of the queue (for isntance builder or anti-air) and not inside the repeated queue both together let's you build infinite reenforcement while being able to request some situational units.
@mrpotato89852 ай бұрын
alt + number (like alt +1) will put units into a default group. Every unit of this type will be added to a "number" control group. can be very helpful.

Radar towers don't cost too much and it's good to have radar coverage of the map but their line of sight is blocked by steep terrain, make sure you don't put them right behind rocks, they're best on top of cliffs. You can also build cloaked cameras around the map, they're not used very often but I think you might be able to get a lot out of them with your SC2 experience. Your whole base can explode to even a small runby of enemy units in this game, especially in 1v1 you should play cautiously and keep some early warning coverage on every possible approach to your base. Your resurrection bots can also repair your units, if you're going to use Maces then make sure to keep them fixed up, that's one major advantage of bots over vehicles. Vehicles are also fast on flat terrain but bots climb hills better, and Maces can shoot farther if they're attacking from on top of a cliff. Medium tanks are more cost-efficient fighting on flat ground though, and they're significantly faster than Maces, so be careful about getting your army too far out on the map against them.

Assuming you didn't change the Control/Hot Keys, you should be using GRID keys. Save Camera positions using Ctrl+F1, Ctrl+F2, ...F3.... F4. So if you save your camera looking at your base with Ctrl+F4, by pressing F4, it takes you to your base right away. No need to zoom all the way out or using the map.

It's "simple", vehicle are slower than flying and bot, but are heavier, more armored or weaponized, but also tend to have heavier, slower shot. And are limited climbing slope. Bot are more nimble can climb difficult slope, but less armored or firepower. Flying have no armor, limited firepower, expensive, work in swarm for strategic strike. That's the general idea but it extend with, in fact, each unit itself, in term of cost, building time, weapon, range, mobility, etc... So for example with a bunch of bot you can dodge shot of heavier vehicle, strike back with laser with no limited fire angle but less damaging etc, etc... or keep distance with sniper or missile bot, but the opponent can use fast vehicle rushing through the shot. It's a deep strategy game, apparently you can choose how you play, micro or macro, it goes for the infrastructure and unit management etc. There is no good or bad unit, just situation where there adapted or not. Need management or not.

You lost so many units in the mid in the last game to paralyzer drones.😅

just my 2 cents but BAR is far from SupCom with how many detailed options that game has BAR is simply another Total Annihilation iteration with a couple more factories and defenses, some QoL functions, which in itself ain't bad but does it have SupCom's structure upgradesystem? no does it have adjacency bonuses from powerplants, storage or mass/metalextractors? no does it have commander upgrades that give the option to turn it into an advanced builder or combat focused unit almost equal to an experimental? nope one upcoming game that is much closer to SupCom is Sanctuary: Shattered Sun

Spring engine has pretty decent bots, quite dangereous at times and they can be set to not cheat and just take decisions from Radar and vision info. I don't know if BAR has a campaing but the original Total Annihilation, which it mostly copies in terms of units and factions, had an absolutely fantastic campaign.

People typically play bar in 8v8 which is the most popular format, and you just have to find a lobby and join. The good side, is it's less tryhard than sc2 because any one player isn't as impactful in that format. But the disbenefit is that it takes a while to find a lobby, for it to fill up, and for the game to start, hopefully without anyone disconnecting.

Usually when you have large flat map, vehicles are a bit better, unless opponent can outrun you, like you done in the first game. In that game he surrendered because from that point he didn't had almost any energy source, before he would be able to rebuild you would outproduce him a lot and his commander was in the middle of map, it's equivalent of destroying whole mineral line in first 5 min of game in Starcraft 2, you can still play but your chances of winning are close to zero. In this game strategy is everything, meta is not really a thing. Yeah, there is a way to start game more efficient and not energy or metal block yourself, but if it comes to units, it's much more diverse and reactive than SC2.
