I am right there with you when it comes to UTOPIA's replay value. Plus, I have not returned to a hiphop record this year in the same way I have returned to UTOPIA. Travis came with a vengeance vocally and lyrically, the production is incredible, and the features all work (even the Yung Lean & Beyonce features).

Utopia has its phenomenal moments such as SIRENS, MY EYES, HYAENA, DELRESTO.(i understand the hate. Delresto doesn't work as a song but there's a lot more about it to appreciate) However it falls TERRIBLY short on many aspects especially with the ye "influence" and there should be zero reasons to be defending this. Its far from a classic project.
@ViktorMiranda1 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you! I do enjoy the album but I watched a video that explains it well how it was more of a money grab. The majority of the songs are old or were handed down from Donda. Then you look at the bundle rule that Billboard changed right before the release. It’s sad to me. I get the money moves and it’s a good album but nowhere near what Travis is fully capable of.

Honestly, it is a classic album, from Travis perspective tho. Like honestly I bet in a couple of years, we look back and see this album as a starting point of a new wave. Like stated, stuff like Pink Tape, doesn't do much anymore. That yachty tape, was maybe a bit too much in one time, but with this album i think we're going transition into a new era of hip-hop, utopia will serve as the link between modern and future sound. Just like YEEZUS did at it's time, that's the influence. It's not purely the sound, which is sometimes maybe too similar, but it's the transition that Ye brought, that Travis is trying to recreate.

At first I couldn't help the perspective Travis just customized DONDA 2 for himself by biting off of Yeezus' ideas(disappointingly) But... by interacting with it, a pressing question I've always had with the Old Kanye/New Kanye debate unravelled. The 'new' Kanye IMO has always felt _incomplete_ but I obviously couldn't place _why_ . Now I understand that It was the feeling of observing the prototype of future creativity. Travis is just the subtle beginning, soon the true 'new Kanye'(s) will "perfect" the prototype but by then it will be sth completely novel & with a totally different context to the one that created the modern era Ye. Utopia is absolutely worth it.
@ashtmslf2315 Жыл бұрын
Honestly this album sounds nothing like Yeezus to me. That album was cold, digital, harsh and abrasive, not really terms I would use to describe Utopia. I really don't get why every time a popular artists makes something more experimental it gets compared to Yeezus

@@ashtmslf2315Good Artists borrow, great ones steal. I have no issues with La Flame giving us a proper heist(it's his signature). However, what people forget about the stealing part is that getting away with it is *the* essential part(at least initially). Here is my *opinion*: (modern jams/circus maximus - YEEZUS), (God's country/telekinesis - DONDA2), (Delresto[echoes] - REINASSANCE), (Meltdown/Skitzo - Her LOSS), (til further notice - HEROES & VILLIAN). ps These songs actually fit Travis better but I can trace their origins too easily, is the point.

Good take but you have to be in the gym or somewhere loud to appreciate Circus Maximus 😂 I heard it before I dove in a pool to swim laps and felt incredible. I think Utopia did something a lot of these albums from others can’t and that’s basically sell like crazy but also introduce just enough of a new sound to keep people coming back. Most of these rap albums got stale because they relied too heavily on the most popular sound of trap but now the market is shifting and Utopia is just ahead of the curb.

first time I heard it, obviously Kanye's influence was all over it. I felt some Yeezus vibes in the sense of the dark computerized industrial sound, except modernized and the lyricism was way more toned down and melodic. and then, much to my surprise, the Kanye leaks pretty much confirmed it with modern jam gods country telekinesis all being reworked from earlier versions of other songs. It's a few notches below Yeezus, but I'm able to listen to it all the way through without a single skip. and speaking on Travis's lyricism. He pretty much admits his lyrics are not deep. And I think that's a good thing. He's never trying to be something he's not or try to appease a certain group of people. His voice is literally just an instrument and not for interpretation. It's 100% about the sonic delivery for him. I bet he would speak total gibberish if it sounded captivating.

I have very mixed feelings about utopia. It is considered a concept album, but it's concept is explored in a few songs, and very lightly. And Travis is also known for trap bangers, which this would underdeliver in that regard as well. I definitely don't think it was worth the wait. Albums like last years Mr moral and tfs I think made much better use of their respective artists hiatus.

Honestly, after also seeing the show in Rome, only skip on the album is Delresto, a boring stream grab using beyonce, trying to reach a new/broader audience, same goes for K-POP tho, but that's catchy and even heard it in subway stations and stuf. But Delresto is just a throw away from Beyonce's last album, boring, repetitive, just used as a break on the album and also during the show (he changed outfits during the whole song)

Personally playing the Uzi album just as much as Travis. If not more. While I can see why uzi’s albums didn’t appeal as much it has NO SKIPS. Even if you don’t like what he did with CS or Werewolf you have to appreciate the attempts and the style that is uniquely Uzi brought to it. Personally I love it. Endless fashion has an insane sample and Nicki kills it. So many personal moments detailing rehab and things and what Uzi has been through. Fun beats great lyrics and Uzi taking chances and expanding his talents. Just wanna rock and Werwolf should NOT work together on an album together thematically kept together with songs like Rehab is amazing. Ordered the Pink Tape Vinyl, Utopia I’ll get at a later date.
