Saw him that month at the 8/26/78 World Series of Rock, all day show at the old Cleveland Stadium. J Geils cancelled, and the show was rescheduled from 8/6 to 8/26. Todd was contacted as he was in Cleveland performing small venues for the Back to the Bars live LP. Others performing were Eddie Money, The Cars, Bob Welch, and headliners- Fleetwood Mac. Unbelievable day.

I was there as well. Todd & Utopia played a great early set, then off to Chicago for another show at night. Eddie Money & Jimmy Lyons were smoking hot and Fleetwood Mac tore the house down!

These lyrics have been speaking to me for 40 years now. My favorite song...ever.

an anthem in the best sense of the word. almost a hymn, maybe aimed at eager, geek, square-peg slacker, misfit adolescents, as I remember being. this mighty pop tune takes me right back to that feeling I had c.1972 - but I notice Todd's poetic content survives & applies through whole decades - it doesn't always evoke nostalgia. Plus his Arena or Liars stuff has caustic social comment like no on else other than Buffy Ste Marie

Actually ignored by the producer, but I get your point. Willie always plays for the song, much like Ringo. A tremendous talent.

It always amazes me that he has seemingly the roughest voice in the band, and yet he's the one who sings those soaring high harmony parts.

@Paul Johnston That’s exactly the way that I feel. I’ve spent a lifetime close to the subject and I feel that this is the breakthrough that’s been needed. We may enter a new age of consciousness.

Great to see a 70s version of this classic with Todd upclose! I have to say that the studio version is faster and more funky, which is not Todds fault here (drummer and bassist are playing it like they're on ludes). The best parts are the breakdown and when he finally cuts loose on the solo. The studio version is something that should have been on classic rock radio for decades, but I don't remember hearing it, as far back as the early 80s. More 70s Todd!
