Easy to say while watching it, but attacking his forehand with attacking lobs (heavy topspin forehands) that land deep and bounce high would have been a good formula. I can see you have the shots for that! Barry did not look like he would have coped so well with that, and I think would have given you many easy balls. He looks a little tricky though as he plays with very little power and fairly high loopy (hacky as we say in the UK).

@akt I could see the heavy topspin to the forehand working out. I'll try it out if I get another chance to play him!

you are a very good player. on your one-handed back hand, IMO, you can increase your power if your right foot is 45 degree instead closed (90 degree) when you coil and hit. 45 degree not only will increase power, it also gives you much better unit turn (body rotation). look at your forehand, your left foot is 45 degree not 90. Just a thought. cheers

@S C I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I've never compared my fh and bh like that before. I'll fire up the tennis ball machine and see how It feels making that adjustment. Thanks!!

I think the most impressive parts to me are 1 - your mental toughness to keep fighting. It cannot be understated how easy it would've been to have a fatal mental lapse in that third set, and 2 - your 1hbh held up phenomenally. I don't know why so many lefties develop that little Nadal hook to our bh yet we righties don't develop the equivalent, but I guarantee that's his money shot, destroying people weaker on that wing. Great match and love the channel!

@Greg Tennis - 3.0 at best Thanks! I appreciate your comment. Something about lefties brings out the best in my backhand. lol

Quality tennis I’m surprised you didn’t try a little bigger angle from both sides once your opponent left you a short ball he kinda realized everything you hit was mostly down the middle even when you put a little juice on it. I think the big rally balls cross court but just continuously more angled with just heavy top until you get the short put away ball could be a solid strategy for your game Good luck on the 8.0 journey though strokes seem to be there already

Thanks Kemeshin! I have a tendency to play safe down the middle but I like your strategy a lot.

nice match. you should probably go more for his forehand because his backhand is way better (deeper and stronger) than his forehand. on forehand he's playing some weak spin without forward momentum, he's just raising the ball without any penetration at all. you have a nice technique on forehand so am really surprised that you didnt go for more risky and agreesive play after his weak balls. am no pro by any means but i can see that on some weak balls you also retreat too much going far back from the line instead of hitting them on rise.

Some balls I could have been more aggressive with. I preferred hitting towards his backhand because I was getting forehands in return. When I went to his forehand, he would give me weaker balls to my backhand. It was a little harder to do anything with them. Just my thought during the match, doesn't mean its right either.

@@advantagetennis3459 I also think hitting to his backhand is probably more advantageous since you would then more likely get a forehand next shot. Your opponent is really good at redirecting his forehands into your backhand, which your one-handed often struggles with returning high top spins.
