The rounded shape you speak of is normal. The side of a bottle could be flat but the rounded part would end up as a distorted circle

I can do it much better in Modo, but not in Maya :( but i believe people want to know more about uv mapping complicated objects, not just a cube. Hello Mr. Mike! Thank you so much for these tutorials :-) I have a problem with a character I'm trying to Unwrap. Character is in 2 parts, Upper and lower. Planar projected the lower part just fine yesterday and my Uvs are ready but that's not the case with the torso (upper part) Everytime im trying to planar map it it only shows the front. It doesnt unwrap it. Then i try the Best Plane tool and works good, I can cut it in 2 shells but when i move the front to the left in the editor some vertices are connected even though I cut an edge there. Why is this happening? Thank you so much in advance, I really need help, please!

I HATE UV-ing WITH A PASSION ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Even after getting the UV to look so nice and perfectly neat and well cut and seamed, after putting in the checker texture its a mess for some reason with so much distortion. Then I read about the UV distortion thing where the UV is red it means theres stretching but if its blue its okay. It turns blue after you expand it but its so big it won't fit in the uv snapshot box and if u shrink it, it all turns red. I'm sure ill get good after I watch these 40 tutorials I qued up though.

My issue seems to be that my modeling is light years above my UVing. I have 5 models under my belt and started at 2000 faces. The 5th model I just sent you has 29,900+ faces. I'm sure most of that is in the tire tread, but still far beyond my skill set. Let's be conservative and say there are 2,000 faces in the body of my vehicle. That is a lot of headaches lol. I have to concentrate on modeling, with UVing in mind. Because, creating something beautiful and the textures not translate that beauty, is heart breaking.
@MHTutorials3D7 жыл бұрын
Lori, UV mapping is for low poly models and high poly models are for baking normals ( if needed ) So depending on your needs I would focus on UV mapping the low poly
@pandabearlp7 жыл бұрын
not sure what baking is, so i'll have to google it ;)
@MHTutorials3D7 жыл бұрын
Hi Lori, baking is the process where you "project" the details of a high poly detailed model onto a low poly ( less detailed ) model of the same thing to create the illusion of detail without actually increasing polycount. This way you can UV map the Low poly model ,"bake on" the details of the high poly model and texture it as if it was highly detailed. ( I did a lot of videos on this )
@pandabearlp7 жыл бұрын

Take it as a tip. We want to see the tutorial, not your face.
@MHTutorials3D7 жыл бұрын
So why do you add your face in your comment ?
@hammerhead20207 жыл бұрын
Take it as a tip, Mauricio: speak for yourself, not everyone else. I like seeing the faces of the folks who make these videos because it makes the whole experience more personal and human. Maybe you only want to see the tutorial content, which is fine... but "you" are one person with one point of view, and I'm pretty sure you weren't elected to speak for the masses. :P
