Agreed, prior to this it was known as Columbine but the distinct difference is that when Columbine first happened the public and law enforcement were ignorant.. Sadly, it was a huge learning experience. In this day and age where our children actively practice school shooter drills there is absolutely no excuse for the response (or lack of one) by these responding officers. I mean honestly.. what they did goes against everything the training tells them to do in these scenarios.. I agree with the parents.. anyone in that hallway or anyone that wasted time fighting and trying to detain distraught parents should absolutely resign. These situations are ALWAYS sad but this hits differently because kids and teachers died as a direct result of their lack of action.

I watched the full video of the entire shooting scene, including the gunman entering the school and the entirety of the police in the hallway & I was completely shocked and disgusted. Multiple police officers were in that hallway 6 minutes after he started shooting kids in that classroom. They heard him shooting and they did nothing; if they had gone in when they got there, they likely would have saved a lot of those kids' lives. Instead, they were literally milling around the hallway for most of the hour and 20 minutes that they were in there! They were all wearing kevlar vests, which I understand probably wouldn't have stopped automatic rounds, but the children had NOTHING to protect them. And officers with shields were there 20 minutes after the shooting started, so even though I'm sure a lot of the kids were gone by then, they likely could have saved at least ONE of the kids or teachers at that point. But no - the officers with shields all stayed out in the hallway doing nothing. The video is muted in parts where the kids are screaming WHILE THE POLICE WERE IN THE HALLWAY - the police KNEW there were live kids in there. I also don't believe for a second that 911 failed so badly that none of those officers knew kids were still alive in there It's such a disturbing and heartbreaking video to watch. :(

They entered the school and then just stood there cowering behind corners barely 10 feet inside the door!! And they just stood there not doing their job to protect and serve for well over an hour! Lots of sheepish gun pointing and kneeling behind cover. Not an ounce of courage and initiative to save lives!!! They didn’t assemble and take back rooms. They didn’t confront the shooter and force his attention into them instead of on innocent children. Even when ballistic shields were brought, they just stood there like deer in headlights! They all bunched together, almost petrified with fear and uncertainty! You see in the video, officers glancing back and forth at each other, confused, looking desperately for one of them to be a REAL leader hero to finally lead them down that corridor. But there wasn’t a single hero among them! And when more shots rang out, instead of helping the kids, they all ran back and hid even more. Shocking dereliction of their oath and duty!! Where have all the heroes gone in Texas?! People need to be fired and policies and training radically changed! This tragedy has nauseated me and made me aware that we are paying the police for nothing and have no protection. It breaks my heart because all of the children were asking for help and was ignored. I realize the shooter had a high power weapon but to do nothing as a law enforcement officer is unacceptable. This affects the entire world.

This is in essence what defund the police is about they're using excessive force or killing UNARMED people for minor infractions... traffic stops, drugs. Not serving, not protecting and then this??? Plenty of officers armed to the gills can't take out ONE armed mass shooter? If he was a black man with an expired driver's license his odds of losing his life in the "confrontation" would be a lot quicker.

What is soo damn hard about ACCOUNTABILITY?! This horrendous lack of protection didn't just fall on the guy in charge, it fell on ALL of the officers present. The officer is right, the job of an officer is not for everyone because it entails putting your life on the line for those who need protection. They failed their shields, their communities that they swore to protect, and all of those INNOCENT children and teachers who asked for NONE of this. These parents will never have any peace of mind because their children were assassinated and their teachers, along with themselves are the only people who fought that day. God bless these families and the souls of those who lost their lives. UVALDE, do the right thing and relieve EVERYONE of their shields.

I'm not sure I'd be able to not take justice into my own hands if I was one of these poor parents. For any of the officers in that hallway to still be employed is disgraceful, despicable, and disrespectful to each of these parents, the families, and most of all the children. They deserve to be behind bars, but I doubt that will ever happen. Cops are always protected against things like this, as if they're above the law, so whatever punishment they incur, I don't think it will be enough. But they're as responsible for the deaths just as much as the gunman because they left him alone in there with them for over an hour and allowed them to bleed out, so they should be tried to the same extent that he would if he were still alive.
