This stuff makes me laugh when i compare it to wheeling where I used to in AZ. It's still good that there is somewhere to go and test your vehicle out some though. Is there any time of year/week when it isn't so crowded?

So the trails open mid March and Close mid September. Other than the obvious seasonality of outdoor activities...opening weekends and closing weekends are busy. Weekends are busier than week days. Holidays are busier (memorial day, July fourth, labor day, thanksgiving, etc) Nice weather days are busier than bad weather, etc. Rain makes the whole place a very tacky red clay mud. Trails with harder obstacles naturally build up a line as people wait for spotters to get through. Dickey bell and Daniel trails are more difficult. Jeeps roll deep so if you happen to pick a day with a jeep club caravanning 30 jeeps in a row...you'll wait a bit.

Wonder if an outback wilderness can do this trail

It will depend on trail conditions and how timid or aggressive you are with the vehicle and how experienced you are. It probably could get through if you're a risk taker...or very experienced with choosing lines.

This is a great testing ground for 4x4s, pretty neat 👌

Yeah I love this area. Nice long trails and most arent too difficult. Makes it easy to go with a group of varying skill levels.

HI!!! I need help, I just bought a 2003 Nissan Xterra and all of a sudden smoke came out of the air conditioning vents in front of the dash, it was white smoke and it smelled burning, it is in the garage but I still have no diagnosis of what happened ... Anyone know what can it be?

Check the cabin air filters which are under the passenger side dash. I have an older video about replacing the thermo amplifier control which shows where the filters are. They can get jammed up with a bunch of leaves...and dry leaves can an smolder easily. Other than that...any other symptoms? Screetching noise when fan is on? Does fan still blow air and does AC still cool?

@@XterraRob thxs man, it seems that my xterra has many more problems every day, now a light turns on the board that says SET, I'm looking in the manual to see what it means, yesterday I watched several of your videos and there seems to be a solution for most of the Problems in this truck, if I continue to have problems I will sell it better ...

Old vehicles are tough. They will always wear out and it is hard to decide whens the time to move it on. Good luck!

Custom fabricator when I was in Iowa. Do some google searching for custom fabrication shops ... Local off road club message boards or Craigslist. Finding someone with a tube bender, an angle grinder and a welder is going to be cheaper than buying one from a bumper or armor company.

Do you recommend a 1st gen or 2nd gen for off-roading -overlanding
@XterraRob3 жыл бұрын
Great question! It kind of depends on how much you want to spend. The 2nd gen Pro-4x model comes with a rear differential locker which is hands down the best stock feature of any Xterra for off roading. The 2nd gen has a bigger engine, and can also fit 33 inch tires in relatively stock configuration. Firat gens are cheaper, and are fun to modify and build up. If you are looking for a cheap beater that you can bash through some trails and not feel bad about dents, Id go first gen. If you want a cheap chassis because you want to do solid axle swaps and gut the stock stuff anyway...first gen. If you have the money to spend, I would go with a Pro-4x. If you are looking for a decent daily driver that can take you on some decent trails Id go any 2nd gen 4x4 xterra due to the more updated interior. Or if you like the body atyle of one over the other...

Hey rob I appreciate what you do for the Xterra community, this isn’t relevant to your travel video but did you have to re-gear for your rad 33 inch tires?
@XterraRob3 жыл бұрын
I did not regear...but 33s are definitely slower than 32s or stock tires. Weight plays a big factor too. If you go to steel rims and heavy 33s, driveabiliry will be worse. If you keep stock alloy rims and do a milder all terrain 33...lighter is better. I would say my stock rims with 33x10.50R15 BFG km2 mud tires were minimum for what i would consider reasonably streetable as far as acceleration, pulling out in traffic etc. My 33x12.50R15 grabber ATX tires are a little better than that. I wouldnt bother with the expense yo re gear on a truck this old. Unless you are doing a custom buggy build with 35s or bigger.
