Hi. I have a 1998 3.3L Nissan Pathfinder. 175,000 miles. Great condition. Stock. My tank gets alarmingly pressurized when driven a couple hundred miles. I don't have any codes. My Nissan gas cap visually inspects clean and good. Does not leak. I even disconnected all hoses on the EVAP system and cracked the gas cap. No codes were made either. How can that be? I drove it dozens of miles to test. To see if the missing stopped or codes would appear. No codes, except random misfire. Every now and then, but the motor is obviously missing mildly to badly all the time. It gets worse for a while when I refuel. For a few dozen miles. When this system started doing this, I started getting a random misfire code at the same time. These may be unrelated. Not sure. I have verified purge valve works, hoses are clear now. One was dirty about 2" clogged at the canister for the purge line. It looked like charcoal dust. All other hoses clear. Any ideas? I was going to remove the plug from the cannister ambient vent valve and see what that did. It should toss a code right? And make the valve open, from my understanding? I don't want the tank to pressurize like that again. It will spew and hiss for about 6 minutes when cap is removed. I've never seen a vehicle do it this badly before. Thanks much

Good job but I took my pathfinder to the shop because there were just too many issues for me to consider doing it myself I dont have a garage at all. Im retired Id be looking at o2 sensors as well as all the top engine sensors MAF or computer and coolant sensors its gonna be a big job even for an experienced mechanic and getting parts as they must be ordered n take at least a day to arrive Im in North Dakota cant just go to the local parts store or junk yard. There are reasons you need a dealership and say a few prayers!

If you are worried about gas mileage, get a frigging 50 cc moped. I have never understood why people want gas mileage and power on the same hand. Yeah that’s just disabling or bypassing it. Not “fixed” but gets you going. Probably not “proper” … but I can honestly say hitting the brake pedal when shifting out of park is auto pilot for me… the interlock has never prevented me from making the mistake of shifting out of park with my foot off the brake… and by extension lurching forward, rolling backwards, etc but depends if you are comfortable with that removed.

@XterraRob

@@michaelwest9482 great suggestion on the coolant. Anytime you open up a coolant line it’s good to open the vent at the top of the intake manifold after running the engine a bit and pour some coolant in or however you want to use it. Cycle key a time or two for injectors. Didn’t have any trouble there.

Is 25” on all four corner’s the goal? I thought we were supposed to keep a slight rake like 1-1.5” difference from front to back
@XterraRob
@XterraRob Ай бұрын
Depends on your goal and what you want. Stock vehicles have a rake nose down a little bit which can help with aerodynamics and so it sits level when towing or loading down the hatch. I wanted as even as possible for aesthetics and max ground clearance for off reading. It’s purely adjusted to preference.

While installing new bushings on the diff I highly suggest freezing them and using a bar of ALL-THREAD with big washers to pull em in. This makes installation a breeze compared to using a press. Also, before you remove the old bushings it again is HIGHLY suggested to use a ruler and find the center of the holes and mark that center on the frame of the bushing housing. This will help you align new bushings much quicker. I got 3 of them perfect and one was maybe a degree off. Had to think outside the box and pry/manipulate that hole just enough to get the bolt in. Absolute pain in the ass, but I got it done

How much ground clearance is necessary for Dutch John, specifically that final hill climb with the ruts? Running a 3rd gen Tacoma with a 3" lift and Bilstein 5100s without any armor (just stock front skid plate), so around 12-12.5" of total ground clearance. @XterraRob 3 ай бұрын
Do you mean portal axles meaning a drop gear box at the wheel hub?
@kyleallred984
@kyleallred984 3 ай бұрын
Correct. From what I understand they require less modifying of the vehicle to achieve an equivalent lift.
@XterraRob
@XterraRob 3 ай бұрын
@@kyleallred984 I don't have much experience with them personally other than reading and see them online. They are not that common because they are expensive. A quick google shows a 5 inch portal lift for a Tacoma at $16,000 dollars and none exist for the Xterra that I am aware of. If there is not a bolt on kit already designed, then you are doing a lot of custom fabrication to mate up the axle shafts and hub flanges, etc. If you have endless money and want to build a dedicated extreme trail rig, then it may make sense. I have seen them more often used with 4 wheelers and side by sides where the vehicle itself is small, and the suspension geometry doesn't allow for much lift.

Would it be possible to add a turbo and snorkel to a 2000 Xterra xe v6 for increased towing power and safer fun?
@XterraRob
@XterraRob 3 ай бұрын
Possible? Sure, once you can cut and weld metal back together...anything is possible. But there isn't a dedicated turbo kit that is drop in. There was a version of the first gen xterra that had a super charger, but that requires a junk yard donor vehicle to scavenge the super charger, intake manifold, throttle body, cables, etc. Snorkels are definitely possible. Check out 4x4parts.com and see what you like.

Great list...super charger conversion is awesome! I have been eying coastal offroad DIY kits for a while but never went that route. I liked the concept because I can weld the stuff up, but hand cutting plates with an angle grinder and smoothing out edges is so tedious and messy, plus without tube benders, you are kind of locked in to very boxy geometry. How did you do your headliner? I tried some fabric at first, but the glue all fell down sitting in the parking lot at work during the hot summer months. I ended up taking it out and spray painting. I wasn't too happy with how it turned out, but it never sagged again!

Do you think converting an N/A gen 1 2004 into a supercharged one is worth the hassle? It had no power down low but its also running kind of rough so Im doing a tune up as soon as it cools down. If I were to go through with it, what all would I need? So far I know the supercharger, intake plenum adapter, belt brackets but beyond that Im not too sure. Do I need a VG33ER ECU like Ive heard? Great mechanical talents! i will take look at my 94 ES300 V6 3.0, ALSO P1300, adding a new air filter got rid of stall but now hesitates bogs down when i accelerate, also have the shift solenoid A electrical P0753 code for months. 1 hr low speed and idle test in my cul de sac to make sure stall was gone may have activated the p1300 code. I will see if does better today without extended idle, this 94 only has 47K miles on it, Calif car, so hopefully it has lots of miles left on it, i was amazed that putting s new Denso Toyota air filter appeared to solve the stall, Also the only issue with the shift solenoid code is it doesn't take off quickly in drive at a stop light so I just shift to low manually and go up through second to drive I hope that's not detrimental to the transmission? I could find Somebody to maybe replace that solenoid, all the tranny fluids new I even pumped it out of the torque converter via the transmission cooler line The tranny filter hasn't been changed so that probably wouldn't hurt

P1300 is more than just the ignition coil!! And anytime you have multiple codes like thatP1300 does not mean a bad ignition coil. It means the circuit, which means anything on that circuit including the coil, wiring, & ecm. Don’t just jump off and throw parts at it (replacing the coil), diagnose it!! Yours may have just been a coil, but that may not be the case for everyone else, so this is misleading!!!
@XterraRob
@XterraRob 4 ай бұрын
Understood. The ECU triggers the code but it doesn't know if an open/short circuit is in the coil itself, wire harness or the connectors, or an unexpected resistance or voltage drop due to corrosion. In my case I swapped coils from one cylinder to the next and cleared codes. The new code triggered matched the cylinder that I swapped the coil into so I felt pretty sure the coils were the problem.
