i had the incredible opportunity to sing in the wisconsin all state choir and this song was one of the pieces selected to perform. i have been in love with it from the moment we began singing. i am now in the uw-stout university choir and am hoping with anything i may get the chance to sing it again. so hauntingly beautiful, tears in my eyes every time i hear it.

You all do a fabulous job with this song. This song holds a special place in my heart. It was the last song the choir I was in at school got to work on with our director before his passing. Really. Beautiful job. Just beautiful.

That's the beauty of Ticheli's music. It's dissonent and 'crunchy', but it resolves to beauty again. From a music theory standpoint, all of his progressions are allowed. I got to be conducted by Ticheli three years ago. Absolutely incredible experience.

I am a tuba player but have been involved in some choirs and vocal music, and sometimes I feel like I picked the wrong emphasis in my degree. I played the wind band arrangement of this tonight but our chamber really knocked it out of the park. Such beautiful music.

Love this song. Wrong notes in Tenors and Sopranos meas. 18 (1:35 - 1:38) D natural (not D flat as was sung). Love the B II's.

@bnegro Yes, Teasdale did commit suicide, but that's not what this poem is about. She found solace in studying the stars at night. People do the same with Sexton...i.e... equate everything she did with suicide. Most artists who feel emotions in an extreme way struggle with depression. This is Teasdale's way of trying to find peace.

Was not impressed much. My choir did this for UIL Contest and Sightreading and got sweepstakes and hardly made any mistakes. We are Granbury High School from Granbury, Texas. We did this memorized and mixed up. The blend was amazing.

I'm not sure where people are coming with the reasoning for this song? I know the song comes from a women poet who commit suicide. And then her poem was turned into this song..
